On March 10th, the 16th expansion for Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege, "Operation Void Edge", was released for season pass players. This expansion includes two new operators with Nienke "Iana" Meijer as the new Attacking Operator and Saif Al Hadid, codenamed Oryx, as the new Defending Operator. With the expansion going worldwide on March 17th, many players without a season pass are fighting unprepared against these brand new operators.
The new challenge for defending players is Iana and her unique gadget, the Gemini Replicator. This gadget creates a Holographic copy of Iana that can be controlled like any other character. The Hologram copies whatever cosmetic skins the player has equipped so there is no direct visual method of determining if an Iana player is a hologram or not, however, the Hologram cannot shoot, climb ladders, break barriers, or rappel walls.
The main purpose of the Gemini Replicator is to scout out the positions of the defending players. With this in mind, there are two separate routes to take. The first route is to keep the hologram occupied while another player searches for the Iana player, as they are unable to control her while controlling the Hologram. The other route would be to disrupt the Hologram and prevent it from getting near the objective at all. A single shot or melee attack can take out the Hologram instantly and the recharge time will take longer on the Iana player's end if the Hologram is destroyed instead of voluntarily shut off.
Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege has multiple Defending Operators have unique gadgets that can counter Iana's Hologram, as it is considered to be an electronic device.
Mute
Mute's Signal Disruptor will instantly destroy the Hologram, so placement near hallways and doorways will prevent Iana from scouting too close to the objective.
Vigil
Vigil's Video Disruptor makes Vigil unable to be seen and scouted out by the Hologram as it technically functions as a camera, despite it not being able to scan for enemies or ping locations.
Bandit
Bandit's Shock Wire will destroy the Hologram upon contact.
Kaid
Kaid's Electroclaws function the same as Bandit's Shock Wire with the Hologram and destroy it.
Maestro
Maestro's Evil Eye can see the lack of heat signature from the Hologram and destroy it with its laser.
While the possible mind games Iana players can pull with her Holograms may seem intimidating, shutting down Hologram usage puts the attacker into a corner. With proper team communication and preparation, going up against the new operators doesn't have to be too much of a challenge.
Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, with PS5 and Xbox Series X versions also in development.
