It's no secret that the raiding roguelite Rabbit & Steel borrows inspiration from the popular tab-target MMORPG Final Fantasy 14, not least of all are the plethora of stats and status effects that can strengthen allies or weaken enemies. While most of these effects are well documented in in-game tool tips that provide detailed descriptions, one stat, in particular, has remained an enigma: luck.

Rabbit & Steel developer Mino Dev recently took to the community Discord server to provide a comprehensive rundown of obscure mechanics and numbers players might be interested in knowing. Among them was the cryptic luck mechanic, giving a thorough explanation of everything involved with the stat.

What Does Luck Do in Rabbit and Steel?

Rabbit and Steel Lucky Item Set

Random chances are everywhere in Rabbit & Steel, from the innate 30% chance to land a critical hit, to unique character effects like the Dancer's 30% chance to reset their special ability's cooldown when using a primary or secondary attack, to special items like the Red Tanzaku which provides a rare chance for a random miracle to activate.

Luck is a special stat that increases the chance of these events occurring, with every point in luck increasing the likelihood of a random chance succeeding by 1%, and every two points in luck increasing a character's critical hit chance by 1%. Like the obscure luck mechanic itself, however, items that provide luck don't advertise the exact amount of luck they grant, instead opting for descriptive language like "significantly luckier" or "slightly luckier". Fortunately, Mino Dev provided the exact luck values in their community post, revealing the following stats:

  • Mimick Rabbitfoot - Grants 15 luck.
  • Ballroom Gown - Grants 10 luck.
  • Luck Potion - Grants 10 luck.
  • Rabbitluck Status - Grants 100 luck, and % chances are always successful.

The post notes that while luck will make random chances more likely to occur, random chances max out once they've reached double their natural value. For example, the Dancer's 30% chance to reset their special ability cooldown will reach a maximum 60% chance to activate, even if the player has an extra 35 luck from the Mimick Rabbitfoot, Ballroom Gown, and Luck Potion combined. The one exception to this rule is the powerful Rabbitluck status, which guarantees the activation of any random chance effect, used by one team to win the World First Race in under three hours.
