As the coronavirus pandemic continues to mess with release dates for all kinds of movies and television shows, a much anticipated horror film appears to be one of its next victims. The spinoff to A Quiet Place, which had been slated for a March 2023 release, has been pushed back by Paramount along with several other films.

The A Quiet Place franchise continues to be one of the most popular horror entries in quite some time thanks to a cast that has included Emily Blunt, John Krasinski, Djimon Hounsou, and Cillian Murphy among others. The first two installments were so popular that a spinoff was greenlit shortly after A Quiet Place 2 hit theaters, but now people are going to have to wait just a little longer before they get to see it.

Paramount has announced that the Quiet Place spinoff is pushed back to September 22, 2023. The announcement came shortly after Paramount had to delay the releases of Mission: Impossible 7 and Mission: Impossible 8 by one year each. The delay of the next Quiet Place film also means that any more information surrounding the spinoff is going to get pushed back as well.

A Quiet Place 2

There isn't much known about the Quiet Place spinoff other than the fact that Pig's Michael Sarnoski has been signed to direct. Beyond that, there isn't a ton known about the plot of the new movie, or whether any of the family that moviegoers have gotten to know from the first two flicks will return. The fact that this movie has been dubbed a spinoff seems to indicate that Blunt and company won't be reprising their roles.

On the other hand, it may just be that Blunt and her on-screen family won't be front and center. It's possible they could still be involved in one way or another. A Quiet Place 2 was able to introduce a whole other group of survivors while still keeping the original group (minus Krasinski for obvious reasons) in the story as well.

This isn't the first time that the franchise has been affected by the coronavirus pandemic. In 2020, A Quiet Place 2 was supposed to hit theaters in March but was delayed an entire year. The delay for the second installment in the A Quiet Place franchise didn't hurt the box office results though. That could be a good sign for the Quiet Place spinoff as long as it's able to achieve the same level of quality.

The A Quiet Place spinoff is expected to hit theaters on September 22, 2023.
