Of all the first-person shooters from the 90s that have stood the test of time, Quake is one of the most acclaimed and beloved games developed by id Software. This Quake remaster surprised launched on several different gaming platforms, complete with upgraded visuals, new content, and multiplayer modes added. Even content that was cut from the original has been added to make it one of the most complete editions of the game released. This version of Quake has also been receiving some post-launch updates, intended to keep improving the experience.

The first update to Quake Remastered added several quality-of-life changes to the game, especially towards its online and co-op multiplayer modes. Other content added includes modding support, giving fans ways to easily create mods and custom maps to their liking. With Update 2 being dropped for this game, it is adding another multiplayer mode, along with a map and other improvements.

The first addition listed in this update according to the notes includes a brand-new Horde Mode, which will allow 1-4 players to band together and mow down waves upon waves of enemies of increasing difficulties. This mode was developed by MachineGames of Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus fame, who also helped develop new episodes that are exclusive to this remaster. Silver and Gold Keys will be earned upon completion of a certain number of waves, which allow players to unlock even better weapons. There are even four maps being added that are exclusive to this Horde Mode.

A free add-on known as "Honey" will also be a part of the update, as part of id Software's intiative to bring mods towards Quake as free downloads to the community. Honey is a new adventure where players will exploring underground crypts and temples, combating a deadly plague. This includes a bunch of brand-new single player maps, utilizing ambient fog effects and sillouettes.

Alongside more QOL changes and bug fixes, owners of this Quake re-release can earn some exclusive bonuses for Doom Eternal and Quake Champions. Players who enter their Bethesda.net credentials in-game will earn either an exclusive Ranger-themed skin for Doom Eternal or a retro styled Quake Guy Ranger skin for Quake Champions, complete with a Gladus Axe. Switch owners of Doom Eternal will be able to get this Ranger skin when Update 6.66 drops for the game in 2022.

Quake Remastered is available now for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One, with PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions also in development.
