PUBG: Battlegrounds' latest update is bringing a significant amount of new content and changes to the game in the form of an all-new map, new graphics options, a skin crafting workshop, and other tweaks to progression. Universal charms, an overhauled mastery system, and a long list of bug fixes and performance improvements are also introduced in the new PUBG update.

PUBG: Battlegrounds has come a long way since its humble beginnings as a Battle Royale mod for ARMA 2. With a combined player count of over 1.2 billion players, PUBG holds a prestigious position as the most-played video game of all time. As an online "game as a service" shooter PUBG is constantly receiving updates that introduce new content, refine its gameplay, and improve the game's stability with continued bug fixing. New weapons, cosmetic items, and maps are added periodically to keep the game fresh and give the massive player base more to look forward to.

PUBG's latest update brings the game up to version 18.2 and will go live July 12th on PC and later on July 20th for consoles. The new map, Deston, is an 8x8km region set in a near-future environment featuring skyscrapers, swampland, coasts, mountains, and islands. The map has a strong emphasis on verticality as players can use the new Ascender Attachment to rapidly ascend tall structures while using the Utility Parachute to quickly return to the ground. A new vehicle, the airboat, is usable in Deston and can traverse both water and land. PUBG is also adding a new weapon, the rapid-firing slug-loaded O12 shotgun.

Current gen consoles will be able to leverage their improved hardware with new graphics options thanks to performance and stability improvements made to PUBG. Visuals and performance can be adjusted thanks to options such as Temporal Anti-Aliasing (TAA), Fast Approximate Anti-Aliasing (FXAA), and the choice between "Resolution Priority" or "Frame Priority." A new Workshop has been added where players can craft skins that aren't available in the store, charms can now be equipped universally across weapons, and the Weapon Mastery system has been reworked with new rewards and further progression.

New maps and weapons for PUBG are always exciting additions that add variety to the game, and the development of improved graphics options for consoles is a good sign for its future stability and visual fidelity. Hopefully, work continues on improving the console side of PUBG, as performance and stability issues have been a top concern of console players for several years.

PUBG: Battlegrounds is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and mobile devices.
