During The 2018 Game Awards, the brand new Vikendi map was revealed for PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds. The PC version of PUBG was the first to receive the new map's Survivor Pass, which offers progression tracking and rewards based on completed in-game challenges for each player. Soon, those on PS4 and Xbox One will be getting the same progression and reward system as part of a free update.

Starting tomorrow, console users will receive a free update which will include the Vikendi Survivor Pass for PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds. Details for the Survivor Pass run parallel to the one received for PC players, with new challenge missions, both across all maps and specific to Vikendi, for the duration of 10 weeks.

The Survivor Pass is split into free and premium versions. For those unwilling to spend money for the premium version, they'll still be provided with a list of missions to complete. Premium version purchasers however will be given additional missions to complete with exclusive rewards awards as they level up their pass.

Missions are broken out into five different categories: daily, weekly, beginner, premium, and challenge. The most notable difference among the separate lists is that Premium Pass holders will be allowed to complete 10 missions per week, while all others will only be allowed four. By completing weekly tasks, all players will then have access to additional challenge missions, which again, will only offer rewards to Premium Pass Holders. The cost to buy the PUBG's Premium Pass is $9.99 USD.

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds first began offering what it called an "Event Pass" last summer, which required some hefty time investment from players who weren't paying. The newly-branded Survivor Pass is a way for players to earn cosmetic upgrades by playing the game naturally, as opposed to simply spending extra money on specific gear, and was done as a direct response from players requesting a way to track their cumulative progression.

While Fortnite may have taken the mantle as the most popular version of battle royale in 2018, PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds has been doing what it can to maintain its player base. Last year saw a steady drop in active players for PUBG, though the month of December broke that trend by seeing an increase in concurrent users. Given the rebranding of its reward system and having finally released version 1.0 across all platforms, PUBG looks to be heading back in the right direction.

PlayerUnknown's Battleground is available on Android, iOS, PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One.
