To celebrate selling 70 million units, Player Unknown's Battlegrounds is releasing a remastered Sanhok map for the upcoming Season 8. The jungle location has been converted into an "overgrown abandoned paradise" that offers new challenges for players to enjoy.

The Sanhok map is one of the most popular maps in the game due to its middle-range size, the opportunity for loot, and great balance. PUBG has rebuilt every element in the map according to player feedback and data, as well as incorporating upgrades to the art and design elements. Some of the most popular locations (Boot Camp, Ruins, Pai Nan, Khao, and Quarry) all got special attention for these updates. There are also two new locations: the touristy Getaway and Airfield.

The remastered map will launch with Season 8 on July 22 for Steam and July 30 for consoles. It also includes new additions: the Loot Truck, which will drop loot when damaged and even more when destroyed; customized Confiscated Weapons from the truck that come with new skins and pre-installed attachments, improved Jerry Cans to light enemies on fire, a new Ranked Season, and the Survivor Pass: Payback.

The newest Ranked season will change up scoring by including team placement in the Ranked Point acquisition calculations. The Ranked map pool will now also feature Vikendi. The newest Survivor Pass will give players the option to earn new skins as they explore Sanhok. Remastered Sanhok is packed full of features, including more minor changes like weather type updates and balance tweaks. The devs said the major focuses for the 8.1 update are "visual fidelity, balance, and performance," especially to the richly detailed and popular map that Sanhok is to many players.

The PUBG website includes a ton of "Before and After" pictures that detail the thought processes behind each location change, like adding more covered bridges to the River for improved cover during firefights and ways to cross the water without diving into it. There are a bunch of different weapons and playstyles favored by PUBG players, so having different yet effective uses for each location is important so that all types of players can enjoy the game.

PUBG is a game that pays special attention to creating unique and interesting maps, often drawing inspiration from foreign locales. This new remastered map can be previewed via the PC test server on July 15 and the console test server on July 20, ahead of the late-July launch of 8.1. This update is huge, and it's sure to have a big impact on anyone who frequents Sanhok.

PUBG is available now for Windows, Android, iOs, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Google Stadia.
