With its groundbreaking Early Access debut in 2017, PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds re-shaped the video game industry by creating a massive demand for battle royales. Now, as the game approaches its third year since launch and the beginning of its eighth season, PUBG Corporation is reporting that the game has sold over 70 million copies.

According to a GamesIndustry.biz report, PUBG Corporation's sales figures counted copies of PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. However, the publication is unsure whether this milestone also included copies for users of subscription services like Google Stadia and Xbox Game Pass.

Although the game only sold 50 million copies before the December 2018 release of the PS4 edition, PUBG's enduring success could be down to the developers' regular updates and expansions to the game's functionality. For example, the integration of PS4/Xbox One crossplay was a major feature that could have motivated players to purchase the game, by providing the appeal of allowing friends to team up no matter what console they used.

As this incredible achievement indicates, PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds still draws in a large number of players, from loyal community members to a large number of cheaters. As the battle royale celebrates another successful year, players will eagerly await whatever the developers have in store for the future, from another map remaster, or a new feature like the upcoming Loot Truck.

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds is available now on PC, PS4, Xbox One, and mobile devices.
