The next update arrives for PUBG Battlegrounds, the popular battle royale. While the last major update for PUBG brought a new vehicle and game mode, Update 14.1 brings multiple map changes, a new carrying feature, and more. But the highlight of the new update for PUBG may be multiple timely Halloween-themed changes coming to the game.

PUBG Corporation does a good job at keeping its online shooter fresh with constant updates. The timing of this should bring about some goodwill, which is nice, as news has just came that China has banned competitive PUBG. But apart from those restrictions in that region, players are able to enjoy the upcoming holiday with some spooky celebrating.

The first thing that players will notice is that the PUBG lobby is receiving a Halloween makeover. The Halloween theme is visual but also comes with new music for this October holiday. As far as gameplay is concerned, Erangel is receiving a Halloween-themed overhaul. The School, Hospital, and the Starting island all have been decorated with extra eerieness, including Mummy Coffins.

A new weather type is also being added to the game, one that is dark, foggy, and has a unique moon color reminiscent of Halloween night. When booting up a match, there will be a 50% chance for clear skies, a 20% chance for cloudy weather, and a 30% chance for this Halloween-themed weather. The sinister weather type on top of the Halloween decorations throughout Erangel should combine for quite the atmosphere, while creating a unique look for a PUBG map. The Care Package smoke is also being altered to omit Halloween-themed colors.

Outside of the Halloween-based changes, Update 14.1 still has a lot to offer. The biggest gameplay alteration comes with the ability to pick up and carry downed allies. This is a feature that was added to Fortnite some time ago, and even something that Call of Duty: Warzone players asked for at one point. While picking up downed allies, players can not crouch, sprint, or jump, and they are less accurate while shooting, so they are more vulnerable. Still, it helps with trying to save a teammate in a pinch by moving them to a safer location and slowing down their bleeding. Additionally, it is possible to pick up enemies as well.

The update also sees additional changes to the Erangel and Taego maps, balance changes, UI, quality of life improvements, and much more. PUBG Battlegrounds has seen a lot of stiff competition since launching in 2017 with the likes of Call of Duty: Warzone, Apex Legends, Fortnite, and more. But still, the game continues to be supported and see constant alterations, updates, improvements, and new content. It feels like the older statement in the battle royale game, yet it is still going strong.

PUBG Battlegrounds is currently available on Mobile, PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
