The PlayStation 5 has been out for nearly a month now, and though the console has been well received by fans, there have been a few nagging issues with the latest Sony system. Thankfully, the latest PS5 update aims to fix them, while providing additional performance improvements as well.

This latest update continues where the previous PS5 patch left off, once again improving the performance of the console. With Sony’s exact phrasing being “this system software update improves system performance,” players can expect a bit less crashing and for the system to operate more smoothly. Players should expect to see this phrasing in future firmware updates as well, as it has appeared in all the updates released for the console thus far.

Apart from improvements to the stability of the PS5, the update addresses a few key issues. As mentioned in a post on PlayStation’s official website, Sony has addressed a problem regarding “text input in some PS4 games.” While Sony is not specific as to what games were previously impacted by the bug, likely candidates seem to be anything with a text chat. Games like Rocket League, Call of Duty: Warzone, and Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War could have seen an issue where the system keyboard keeps appearing after typing a message, but thankfully, that should now be fixed.

Another major issue removed via the new update is regarding data transfer. Previously, players have have seen data transfers and downloads canceled “when trying to download content while a data transfer from a PS4 is in progress.” From now on, that should not be an issue, with the update making the PS4 data transfer process as smooth as originally intended. The final note of the update mentions improved connection stability “for some Wi-Fi routers,” something that should come as a relief to players dealing with lag.

While it is certainly nice to see some of the player reported PS5 issues fixed, fans will have to wait until a major update for the addition of new features. So far, nothing has been said about the PS5’s upcoming VR addition, and the same silence remains for other requested features. As of now, it is completely up in the air as to when PlayStation 5 users will be given access to things such as folders and themes, as Sony’s current focus seems to be entirely on bug fixes.

Even with issues still being fixed and a few requested features not currently on the system, PS5 owners should count themselves lucky. With hopeful buyers being scammed and thieves pulling off PS5 heists, getting the newest PlayStation is no easy task.
