PS5 Slim Bundle Could Get You One of Year's Biggest Games for 'Free'

A new PlayStation 5 Slim bundle seemingly comes with a free copy of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, one of the biggest new game releases of the entire year. Sony has yet to confirm an official release date for the Slim variant of its PlayStation 5 console, but it's expected to drop at some point this month. The existence of the Modern Warfare 3 bundle suggests that the new console will be out on or around November 10.

This isn't the first time that fans have heard about a PS5 bundle featuring Modern Warfare 3. The MW3 PS5 Slim bundle was quietly announced last month, though pricing details were unavailable at the time. It was assumed that the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 PS5 Slim bundle would be pricier than the standard PS5 Slim, as has been the case with other PS5 game bundles, but now it's looking like MW3 may be free with purchase.

New PS5 Console Bundle Confirmed

A new PlayStation 5 console bundle packaged with one of the holiday season's most highly anticipated releases appears to be confirmed.

New Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 advertisements have promoted the PS5 Slim Disc Edition bundle that includes a copy of the new CoD game for just $499. $499 is how much a PS5 Slim Disc Edition console costs by itself, so anyone picking up the bundle would effectively be getting the new PS5 console for free. An official announcement for the bundle has yet to be made, but it's safe to say that it will be one of the hottest items for holiday shoppers this season.

What's interesting about this PS5 Slim Modern Warfare 3 bundle is that it comes after Microsoft has completed its acquisition of Activision Blizzard. It's likely that this deal was inked well before Microsoft closed its Activision Blizzard acquisition, and is therefore a remnant of a pre-existing deal between the Call of Duty maker and PlayStation. In the future, it's more likely to see Call of Duty games bundled with Xbox consoles, though fans don't have to worry about console exclusive content anymore.

Modern Warfare 3 has PlayStation exclusive content, but it will likely be the last Call of Duty game to do so now that the franchise is under Xbox control. Head of Xbox Phil Spencer has said that there won't be any Xbox exclusive content for Call of Duty games post-acquisition, with a goal of parity for the series across all platforms.
