PlayStation fans had been hoping that today's PlayStation 5 reveal stream would bring specs, games, and a look at the PlayStation 5's design, but what they got was radically different. In a stream that disappointed many, Sony did a deep dive into the developer-centric aspects of the PlayStation 5 - all without actually revealing the box.

The PlayStation 5 reveal was meant for GDC initially, though due to the show's cancelation, it had to be moved. GDC presentations are typically angled towards developers rather than consumers, and this presentation was no different. PlayStation's Lead System Architect Mark Cerny did a deep dive into the system's hardware but didn't reveal much for gamers.

The result, ultimately, was a letdown audience. While the PlayStation 5 specs were revealed by Digital Foundry, relatively little is known about the console yet. It was an unfortunate display, leaving many frustrated with the PlayStation brand. Since then, fans have taken to social media to vent their frustration, posting jokes and memes at Sony's expense.

For many, the lack of a full PlayStation 5 reveal has been especially biting due to Microsoft's transparency with the Xbox Series X. Microsoft initially revealed the Xbox Series X at the Game Awards in December last year. With more details steadily emerging about the console– including the Xbox Series X specs, revealed just days ago– Sony's silence on the PS5 has come across as particularly frustrating and out of touch.

For those waiting to see the PlayStation 5's design, there's nothing they can do other than be patient. So far, the specs have indicated that the PlayStation 5 isn't quite as powerful as the Xbox Series X, though that will likely result in a lower price point overall. Of course, that's pure speculation, and should be taken with a grain of salt. No price has been announced for either console yet, though that will be the deciding factor for many.

There's no word when Sony will actually reveal the PlayStation 5's design, though one can hope that it's soon. Each day that Sony doesn't, makes it seem like Sony doesn't have anything to show fans, so doing a more consumer-oriented presentation featuring games and the console seems like a no-brainer.
