[UPDATE: Sony announced that it is delaying the PS5 reveal event. Original story follows.]

In just three days, PS5 fans will be getting their first big glimpse at what the console has to offer. The PS5 reveal event is slated for June 4 and will showcase a slew of PS5 games, announcements, and more. And it seems that Sony's intention to go big is also being fulfilled. Initial reports indicated that when it began on 1 PM PT, it would run for about an hour, and that may not entirely be the case.

An event invitation on the PS4 recently went out, so players could sign up to see the event as early as possible. The PS5 reveal event here is slated to run from 1 PM PT to 3:30 PT, a total of 2.5 hours as opposed to the initial report of just 1. While this is exciting, there's also a ton of caveats as to what this means exactly.

First off, when CEO Jim Ryan announced the showcase, he specifically wrote that studios were preparing to showcase games at this showcase and that , "this digital showcase will run for a bit more than an hour." In other words, Ryan's words and the PS4 event seem to be somewhat contradictory, although there's quite a few explanations. The simplest, most out of the way one is that the 2.5 hour time frame is a mistake, but that seems unlikely.

The seemingly most plausible scenario is that Ryan was specifically talking about games being shown for the hour or so that they take up of the event. The remaining hour and change would likely be filled in with dev commentaries, interviews, and more, as well as the obvious intro and conclusion to the event. How this space for PS5 news is filled in remains to be seen, but it's clear that fans will likely learn more about the PS5 than just games.

ps5 reveal event length

Hoping for the PS5 release date or even price is likely far-fetched, but it seems like a safe bet that some of this time will be revolved around showing off the console box itself. Even a few minutes would go far, especially when compared to an hour filled with games, and dev comments on the PS5, new games, and so much more. Sony wants to go big, and that's about as big as it gets.

The PS5 reveal event is slated for June 4.
