According to a recent leak, Sony will be revealing the price of the PlayStation 5, as well as opening up pre-orders for the upcoming console this month.

Today, Sony announced that it will be holding a State of Play later this month, which the leak accurately predicted, giving the new information some extra credence. Supposedly, this State of Play will be similar to the PlayStation 5 reveal event that took place in June. If accurate, during the event Sony will reveal the price of its new system as well as opening it up for pre-orders.

The leak also states that Sony still has more games to reveal, not counting deals made with third party publishers. The anonymous source also mentions that a big multiplayer game will be coming close to the launch of the PS5, as well as several other small announcements that Sony will give at the event, including: a slight hardware revision/upgrade, several major third party deals that Sony will have secured (such as locked off content exclusively for Sony), revisions of PlayStation Now and PS Plus, and more.

PS5-Price-and-pre-orders-reveal

It's unclear as to whether this is fully true, though the State of Play event has already been confirmed by Sony which adds some credibility to the leak. It's clear that Sony needs to announce the PS5's release date and pre-orders soon, with the console's holiday 2020 launch window looming ever closer. By comparison, the PlayStation 4 got both its price and release date announced on June 10, 2013 with the console launching November 15, 2013, five months later. The PlayStation 5 is just three months away from its rumored November launch, and is still without a release date or price.

It's clear that the coronavirus pandemic has had somewhat of an effect on the company and the PlayStation 5's launch, with the company needing to double production of the new system. Despite this, the PS5's launch is not being affected. Other gaming companies have been facing hardships as well, with reports stating that nearly a third of developers have been affected by coronavirus.

But if this leak is to be believed, Sony should be on the right track by the end of the month: pricing has been an issue for Sony in the past, with the PlayStation 3's price affecting the console's sales. The company has been much more careful ever since, and it seems that this console is no different with the company anticipating very high sales numbers for the PS5.

The PS5 is set for a Holiday 2020 release window.
