With the next generation of gaming consoles having launched a few weeks back, it is certainly not unexpected to see folks do weird and bizarre things with their new toys. The PS5, which has had its most successful launch ever in Spain, is no exception to this rule.
Another increasingly popular phenomenon is the internet sensation of ASMR, which has blended quite well in the world of gaming. Even Nintendo has joined in with a special Xenoblade Chronicles themed ASMR video for fans to relax to.
For anyone out of the loop, ASMR stands for autonomous sensory meridian response, which basically boils down to an odd tingling sensation that people often feel when listening to certain sounds. There are a myriad of different types of ASMR videos, as fans of the concept often have specific triggers that ignite their sensory response. For some people it might be soft talking or the light tapping of nails on a desk, while some people prefer the sounds of chewing or even soap cutting. One Youtuber named, ASMattR, has taken advantage of his PS5 to use his DualSense controller to make an ASMR video entirely around his new device.
The video in question shows ASMattR playing the built-in Astro's Playroom, which boasts one of the easier platinum trophies players will find on their PS5. The controller sounds begin about six minutes into the over half-hour video where ASMattR commentates in hushed tones during his experimental video, with the commentary becoming more light around the halfway mark. So, not only is this an interesting use of ASMR, but curious fans can get a brief look at Astro's Playroom if they need that extra push to check it out.
It's hard to say whether or not this style of ASMR is effective, however. ASMattR has quite an impressive microphone at his disposal, which certainly does pick up the DualSense's many interesting features, but the impact this style of ASMR will have on the respective community will be up for the hobbyists to decide.
Regardless of if this is effective or not, seeing gaming fans have fun with their consoles is always going to be a welcomed endeavor, much like the plethora of custom designed PS5s that have been popping up lately. On top of all that, with videos like these arriving so early into the PS5's life, it is certainly fun to think of all the possibilities people will come up with in the future.
