Ever since it released in November of last year, the PlayStation 5 has proven to be a massive hit in much of the gaming community. From its enhanced graphics to its game-changing processing speeds, the system has truly ushered in the next generation of console gaming. The PS5's suite of accessories have also been quite the crowd pleaser, especially the new DualSense controller. The haptic feedback and adaptive triggers have allowed players to feel a whole new level of immersion, giving the PS5 one big selling point over the Xbox Series X|S.

To the new Xbox's credit, however, where the PS5 is able to say it has the DualSense controller, the Series X|S has a much larger suite of colorful controllers to catch the eye of gamers. This has proven to be a crucial difference between the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S early in their respective life cycles, as many PS5 owners have wanted a more diverse offering of controller colors ever since the console launched. Different controller colors have proven to a key aspect of self-expression for gamers over the years, and now that rumors of two new PS5 controller colors are circulating, it would be nice to see even more colors for gamers to choose from.

Dual-Colored Controllers

The design of the PS5 controller opens itself up to a lot of different possible color combinations. The white and the black of the controller is made up of multiple shells, similar to that of the PS4 controller. This gives Sony the opportunity to mix and match color combinations for a bunch of different controllers, giving gamers a breadth of options to choose from. Some possible combinations could include blue and black, green and black, or a gold and black for gamers that want a more bold look. Sony could even make a special red and white controller for whenever the sequel to Marvel's Spider-Man releases.

Monochrome Controllers

In addition to the number of color combinations that Sony could produce, there's just as much room for monochrome controllers. These would mimic the vast majority of controllers from the later half of the PS4's life cycle, and Sony could use the last wave of PS4 controllers as inspiration. The purple and rose gold controllers were some of the standout releases from that wave, and making PS5 controllers in a similar style could prove to be a big hit with some gamers. If there's ever an all-black version of the PS5, Sony could also harken back to the all-black controller that PlayStation systems since the PS2 have released with.

Patterned Controllers

Some of the most popular controllers through gaming are the ones with the most character, and adding a creative design to a controller is great way to make it stand out. In recent years, one of the most prolific controller patterns is some kind of camouflage, whether it's a standard camo or a digitized version. They often pair well with the release of a new Call of Duty or Battlefield title, and it would be smart of Sony to bring out their own camo controller before Microsoft beats them to the punch. There's also room for all kinds of different patterns, perhaps one that resembles ice for the eventual release of the new God of War.

The overall design of Sony's new DualSense controller has been a pretty big hit with PS5 owners, but there's always room for improvement with most accessories. One of the best ways that Sony could make the DualSense even more eye-catching is by giving it a wealth of colors for fans to choose from, especially if they correspond with upcoming releases. With how difficult PS5 production has remained, it may be some time until owners are able to get their hands on a controller that really fits their personality. Hopefully as the system reaches its first birthday, Sony will celebrate by giving fans some more colorful options.
