Unsurprisingly, Dracula himself serves as the epic final boss of this iconic example of the '90s Metroidvania craze. Assuming a large, monstrous form for the showdown, Dracula uses his claws to attack initially, eventually spawning additional monsters to attack the player as well. To top it off, all three of his heads come into play during the battle, ensuring players must be quick to dodge HP-sapping attacks on all fronts. As great as the action is, it's the story and atmosphere that set this one apart. From Dracula's sorrow over the death of his wife Lisa to his final farewell to his son, the horror-heavy boss fight provides some surprisingly strong emotional hooks that add to its overall potency.

8 Easiest Resident Evil Games, Ranked

The Resident Evil series can definitely seem a little intimidating to new fans, but some of the games are actually very easy to complete.

Unlike more standard bosses, Nemesis is a recurring threat, frequently showing up with its rocket launcher in hand to terrorize protagonist Jill Valentine and co. in action-packed confrontations. The final showdown with the hulking beast sees it get brutally eviscerated when Valentine puts a big, new, experimental gun to good use, putting the terrifying walking experiment to a permanent end. One of the Resident Evil series' most recognizable and acclaimed antagonists, Nemesis served as something similar to the Terminator in the game, hunting down characters with no rest or pity. Overall, it was a thrillingly grim action villain for players to enjoy taking down at the time.

The original Metal Gear Solidwas a groundbreaking piece of stealth-action gaming in its time. Many of its finest, wildest traits can be found in the iconic showdown with Psycho Mantis.

From the get-go, Psycho Mantis is a handful to deal with, using both invisibility and teleportation to largely sidestep the player's attacks. The boss fight ventures into the unconventional, with fourth-wall-breaking fare when the macabre villain begins messing with the controls and screen, often going against the player's input and even making it seem as if the television has changed channels. It becomes an infuriating, but undeniably imaginative and suspenseful battle of wits between the player and one of the strangest, most difficult AIs in PS1 history.
