2023 is turning into a great launch year for PS VR2 after the spotlight that the platform received at Sony’s latest State of Play. The event featured some big titles that are soon coming to the console as well as showing off some of the games that are available immediately after the hardware’s launch in late February 2023. Before too long, PS VR2 owners will have a healthy catalog of games to choose from, with upcoming titles releasing throughout the current year.
The games coming to PS VR2 that were featured at State of Play come from some very experienced developers when it comes to VR titles. Some of the games are even coming to PS VR2 from existing VR game ports, so they are bound to be optimized by the time they come to the new hardware. The PS VR2’s game library is quickly turning into a diverse lineup of stellar games.
The Foglands
The Foglands showed off gameplay of a fog-infested fantasy setting, with gameplay somewhat reminiscent of a mashup between the demons from Doom and the combat from Superhot, with some added dungeon crawling. The game also appears to have an integrated card system, seemingly as rotating mission modifiers, though more is bound to be revealed about how these cards work closer to the game’s release. The Foglands doesn't have a release date yet but it comes from Well Told Entertainment LLC, which has a long list of VR titles under its belt.
Green Hell VR
Green Hell’s Amazon Rainforest is an incredibly immersive survival game setting due to an approach to realism that doesn't rely on much fantasy, unlike plenty of other key entries in the survival-crafting genre. The game is already out on other VR platforms as well as PC, Switch, PS4, and Xbox One, and it will finally come to PS VR2 sometime in 2023. The existing releases of Green Hell games have some strong roots with plenty of content spread across a series of updates in 3 parts, which bodes well for the support of the upcoming PS VR2 port.
Synapse
The trailer for Synapse shown at State of Play 2023 didn't reveal too much about the game besides being a cover shooter with a telekinetic player character. Coming from developer nDreams, who have a history of well-received cover shooters and stealth shooters for VR platforms, Synapse is shaping up to be a culmination of all the best nDreams has to offer. Given its past titles, Synapse is likely to have a central storyline, though an arcade-style game that capitalizes on the developer's refined mechanics could thrive equally on combat encounters alone. Synapse will be available on PS VR2 within 2023, with no specific release date at the moment.
Journey To Foundation
Journey to Foundation is a game inspired by a book series by the famous sci-fi author Isaac Asimov, specifically set in the universe of Foundation. The trailer showed off some stealth shooter mechanics with epic locations in outer space, and a player character with some unique abilities. The experience that Archiact Interactive developers have with diverse VR games mixed with such a rich sci-fi setting as the one featured here is bound to be a story that’s worth every bit of the experience. Journey to Foundation will be available on PS VR2 in the Fall of 2023.
Before Your Eyes
Vastly different from the VR shooters that make up a majority of the PS VR2’s library, Before Your Eyes is a creative and emotional narrative-driven story about the mortality of human life. The story utilizes controls that detect players’ blinking and has already received incredibly high praise as well as the BAFTA award for Game Beyond Entertainment in 2022. For gamers looking for a unique and compelling adventure, Before Your Eyes is coming to PS VR2 on March 10, 2023.
