Some PlayStation Plus subscribers got a completely different free monthly game in December 2022. PS Plus subscribers receive around three free games every month and users retain access to these titles for as long as they are a member.
The PlayStation Plus free monthly games for December 2022 are available now as fans can play Mass Effect Legendary Edition, Biomutant, and Divine Knockout at no extra cost. Mass Effect Legendary Edition is the highest-rated game of the three, but it’s also the only title that doesn’t have a native PS5 version. While the lineup looks exciting, PS Plus members in one specific region received a different game altogether.
As reported by PlayStation LifeStyle, PlayStation Plus subscribers in the Middle East received Unturned as opposed to Mass Effect Legendary Edition this month. Unturned is a free-to-play survival game by Smartly Dressed Games in which users face off against zombies. It features all the basic gameplay concepts of the genre such as managing their hunger, thirst, and overall health while trying to survive in this world. It should be noted that only the PC version of Unturned is free-to-play as it costs $25 on PlayStation consoles.
Mass Effect Legendary Edition is probably the marquee game for PS Plus in December 2022, so it’s likely disappointing for many to see it getting replaced. However, Unturned appears to be a good game as it currently has a “Very Positive” rating on Steam. The PlayStation Store often has region-specific products that aren’t available in other countries, with many games launching only in Japan as one of the biggest examples of this practice. This also extends to PS Plus as Unturned is available on PS Plus Extra and Premium in other regions.
PS Plus members in some regions often receive a bonus free game every month. As an example, PlayStation Plus subscribers in Asia got five games in October 2022, as opposed to three titles for the rest of the world. Gamers in Asia got to play Rogue Explorer and Crisis Wing in addition to Hot Wheels Unleashed, Injustice 2, and Superhot.
Similar to the Unturned scenario, specific regions can get a different game as the PS Plus lineup for Asia included Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons instead of Ark: Survival Evolved earlier in 2022. Members in Japan also received Judgment and The Sexy Brutale in place of Mortal Shell last December, so there is always a chance for the free monthly games collection to differ based on the region.
