PlayStation Plus Premium subscribers will soon gain access to PS5 cloud streaming after a future update rolls out. Recently, Sony announced several games coming to PS Plus in June, and now, it has unveiled some information about this upcoming update, which can be a game-changer for PS5 gamers who want to participate in cloud streaming.

Originally released back in 2010, PS Plus is Sony’s official subscription service. The service changed a lot over the years, but it remained a popular choice for PlayStation owners who want to play online and gain free games every month. It comes with three tiers: Essential, Extra, and Premium. In the Premium tier, players can stream games from previous platforms directly into their console by using the cloud. According to a new study made by Circana, games subscription spending growth was only up by 2% in the last year, meaning that companies such as Sony and Microsoft have stopped growing their user base for these services. So, adding more features and better games is a strategy to keep attracting the attention of more gamers.

Now, PlayStation has announced that is currently testing a new functionality for PS Plus Premium subscribers that will be launched soon: cloud streaming for PS5 games. At the moment, subscribers can already stream games from PS3, PS4, and previous platforms, so the ability to do the same with current-gen games was eagerly awaited by PlayStation fans, especially as Microsoft offers this functionality for quite some time in its Xbox Game Pass.

At the moment, however, it’s still not quite clear when this PS Plus update will be rolled out, though, as the company has described this new functionality as still being in its early stages. There’s a fairly good chance it won’t take too long, though, as Sony already has an extensive cloud streaming structure.

Apart from this new functionality, PlayStation is adding several games to its PS Plus Extra and Premium tiers in June. These games include a day one release, Rogue Legacy 2, as well as several other popular titles, including Far Cry 6, Inscryption, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, A Hat in Time, Thief, Elex 2, Vampire: The Masquerade – Coteries of New York, Tacoma, and others. The highlight of the month, Rogue Legacy 2, is a critically acclaimed platformer roguelite in which players explore an ancient castle using several generations of the same family, and it was previously available for PC, Switch, and Xbox players only.
