PlayStation Plus subscribers now have three distinct tiers to choose from. The basic PS Plus Essential tier gets players three free games every month, while the PS Plus Extra and Premium tiers open the door to a massive library of games. These games rotate in and out of availability, so PlayStation Plus subscribers aren't able to keep them like they can the monthly free games and PS Plus Collection titles, but so far it's a rare thing for these titles to be removed from the PS Plus Extra and Premium tiers.

Sony has yet to establish any patterns when it comes to how it's going to add games to the PS Plus Extra lineup, but July 19 marks the first big update for the service since it launched last month. Sony has now added a whopping 18 more games to the PS Plus Extra lineup, with that number extending to 20 if one considers that one of the newly added games is technically three games in a single package.

Five Assassin's Creed games have been added to PS Plus Extra as of the July 19 update in the form of Assassin's Creed: The Ezio Collection, Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag, Assassin's Creed Freedom Cry, Assassin's Creed Rogue Remastered, and Assassin's Creed Unity. Assassin's Creed: The Ezio Collection is a compilation of three AC titles, giving PS Plus subscribers access to Assassin's Creed 2, Assassin's Creed Brotherhood, and Assassin's Creed Revelations.

The new PS Plus games for July 2022 also feature a surprise game that Sony didn't announce beforehand, though it's only relevant to those who are signed up for the priciest tier, PS Plus Premium. PS Plus Premium gives subscribers access to retro games from the PS1, PS2, PS3, and PSP libraries, and the July 2022 update features three new PSP games for subscribers to try. LocoRoco: Midnight Carnival and No Heroes Allowed were announced ahead of time, but the addition of Echoshift comes as a surprise.

And finally, it's worth pointing out that the new PS Plus Extra and Premium games for July 2022 also include a brand-new, day one release. Cat game Stray is now available for PS Plus Extra and Premium subscribers to try, and with the game earning mostly positive reviews from critics, the new PS Plus tiers are really getting off to a good start.
