The upcoming additions to the Premium tier of the PlayStation Plus subscription service address one of the biggest complaints fans have had about it since its introduction last year. The Premium tier is the most expensive version of PlayStation Plus. It comes with the monthly free PS Plus games and all the titles that are part of PS Plus Extra, but its selling point is that it also gives subscribers access to classic games as well.

With a PS Plus Premium subscription, subscribers can play select games from the PS1, PS2, PSP, and PS3 eras. Sometimes these games come with enhancements so that they look and perform better than they did on their original consoles. In some rare cases, the games have even been given PlayStation trophy support. While there are plenty of PS1 and PS3 games available to play through PS Plus Premium, many have agreed that the PS2 and PSP offerings have been lacking by comparison.

The new PS Plus Premium games added every month have routinely been criticized for ignoring the PSP especially, but that complaint has been addressed with the latest additions. There are four new PS Plus Premium games coming to the service on May 16, and three of them are titles that originated on the PSP. The headlining games is Syphon Filter: Logan's Shadow, which doubles as one of the highest-rated PSP games, and it's joined by Blade Dancer: Lineage of Light and Pursuit Force. The fourth new PS Plus Premium game, Ghostbusters: The Video Game Remastered, isn't a PSP title, but it should still be appreciated by subscribers nevertheless.

  • Blade Dancer: Lineage of Light
  • Ghostbusters: The Video Game Remastered
  • Pursuit Force
  • Syphon Filter: Logan's Shadow

Blade Dancer: Lineage of Light and Pursuit Force are two games that earned mostly mixed reviews at the time of their original release. Even so, it's still nice to see any PSP games at all get added to the PS Plus Premium service. Hopefully it's a sign of things to come, as there are still many great PSP games that are completely missing from the PS Plus lineup.

Syphon Filter: Logan's Shadow is a particularly exciting PSP addition at least, especially since it means that nearly the entire Syphon Filter franchise is now available through Sony's subscription service. There's no news on a potential Syphon Filter reboot or remake, but at least fans of the franchise have a convenient way of revisiting the classics on modern hardware.
