Sony has finally launched its PlayStation Plus revamp, giving subscribers access to a huge catalog of classic games from the PS1, PS2, PSP, and PS3 eras, along with a variety of PS4 and PS5 games as well. The new PlayStation Plus service is stuffed to the brink with classic games, with Capcom's hugely popular survival-horror franchise Resident Evil one of the most well-represented series on the service.

At the time of this writing, there are 12 Resident Evil games that PlayStation Plus subscribers can access through their PS Plus Premium subscription in various capacities. Most of the games are available in the rotating games catalog, meaning that subscribers don't get to keep them forever. One of the game is available through the PS Plus Collection, however, and that is something that subscribers get to keep for as long as they stay signed up for the service.

  • Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles

The Resident Evil games on PS Plus Premium offer quite the selection of titles, with fans able to play through a good chunk of the main series games in addition to some of the spinoff titles. Among the Resident Evil games on PS Plus Premium are two versions of the original Resident Evil, with subscribers having access to the acclaimed HD remaster of the Resident Evil remake along with Resident Evil: Director's Cut from the PS1.

Resident Evil fans are also able to play the up-scaled version of Resident Evil Code: Veronica X, in addition to Resident Evil 4 HD. Resident Evil 4 HD is one of the most complete versions of Leon's celebrated adventure there is, giving fans access to all the bonus content that was added in the PS2 version while improving the graphics and adding trophy support.

Co-op-minded Resident Evil fans have some options to choose from as well, with the co-op games Resident Evil 5 and Resident Evil 6 both available on the service. Better yet, the version of Resident Evil 5 available on PS Plus Premium is the Gold Edition, which comes with all the bonus content. Needless to say, a PS Plus Premium subscription could keep Resident Evil fans busy for quite some time.

The final main series Resident Evil game available with a PS Plus Premium subscription is Resident Evil 7, though it's technically a part of the PS Plus Collection. The PS Plus Collection, for the uninitiated, is a collection of acclaimed PS4 games that have been available for subscribers to claim since Sony launched the PS5 in 2020. To date, only one PS Plus Collection game has actually been removed from the lineup, Atlus' Persona 5, and there is no evidence that Capcom plans on pulling Resident Evil 7 at any point in the near future. Regardless, if one claims Resident Evil 7 through PS Plus Collection, it's theirs to keep as long as they stay subscribed to PS Plus, which can't be said for the other RE games in the lineup.

The main series Resident Evil games are going to be the main draw for most fans subscribed to PS Plus Premium, but there are spin-off titles to consider as well. The Resident Evil spin-offs available through PS Plus Premium include Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City, as well as the on-rails shooters Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles and Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles. For those who may be unfamiliar with those particular games, they are essentially retellings of the other Resident Evil games, with some fresh story content thrown in to offer more lore and fill in plot holes.

The most interesting spin-off titles Resident Evil fans can check out through PS Plus Premium are Resident Evil: Revelations and Resident Evil: Revelations 2. The first Resident Evil: Revelations features Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine in the starring roles as they contend with a new biohazard threat. It was originally released on the Nintendo 3DS and earned mostly positive reviews at the time of its launch. Revelations 2 wasn't quite as well-received, but was praised for its co-op support. The game's episodic nature was somewhat controversial at the time, but fans can play through it all start to finish with a PS Plus Premium subscription.

Capcom has a strong relationship with Sony, so it's always possible that more Resident Evil games will join PS Plus in the future. For now, these 12 Resident Evil games should keep PlayStation Plus subscribers plenty busy.
