PlayStation announced the next PlayStation Plus Free Online Multiplayer Weekend, allowing every PS4 and PS5 player to access the multiplayer mode of their favorite game at no extra cost. Outside of this PlayStation Plus Free Online Multiplayer Weekend, players need to purchase a PS Plus membership to compete against others or team up with their friends in multiplayer games.
In 2022, Sony completely changed its decade-old PlayStation Plus service to offer new features to PlayStation players. The PlayStation Plus now has three tiers, each granting its subscribers different offerings. The lowest tier of PS Plus membership, Essential, gives access to online multiplayer, monthly games, and exclusive discounts. The Extra tier grants everything included in the Essential tier, as well as a catalog of downloadable PS5 and PS4 games. Finally, the Premier tier includes everything from the previous tiers, alongside a catalog of classic PS3, PS2, PS1, and PSP games. No matter which subscription they opt for, PlayStation players need an active membership to access online multiplayer on Sony’s consoles.

The next PlayStation Plus Free Online Multiplayer Weekend will kick off on December 9 at 12:01 AM and end on December 10 at 11:59 PM local time. During this time, every PS4 and PS5 player will be able to access the multiplayer modes of their games for free, even if they do not have an active PlayStation Plus membership. This limited-time event will give players a taste of the multiplayer mode of some popular PlayStation games such as EA Sports FC 24 or the highly popular Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, with the probably goal of leading them to purchase a PS Plus membership after the weekend to continue their online adventures.
When Is the PS Plus Free Online Multiplayer Weekend?

This limited-time PlayStation Plus Free Online Multiplayer Weekend is part of Sony’s PlayStation Plus Season of Play, which runs through January 5, 2024. During this time, PlayStation Plus subscribers can redeem free avatars for PS5 and PS4 consoles, get exclusive discounts on PlayStation Gear merchandise, and earn points on PlayStation Stars, among other activities.
Sony recently revealed the PlayStation Plus free games for December 2023 that subscribers can claim until January 1. This month’s lineup includes LEGO 2K Drive and Powerwash Simulator for both PS4 and PS5, and Sable exclusively on the PS5. PlayStation Plus Extra subscribers should be aware that on December 19, 11 games will be leaving the service, including Yakuza: Like a Dragon, The Escapists 2, and Middle-earth: Shadow of War. New games will join the service soon as part of the regular rotation of available games in PlayStation’s catalog.
