It's the end of August, which means the free PlayStation Plus games for September 2021 will be revealed soon. Sony typically waits until the last Wednesday of each month to announce the next batch of PS Plus games, but sometimes the games leak ahead of time. Some thought that was the case with the free PS Plus games for September 2021, with an image claiming to leak the games making the rounds online. However, the leak has since been debunked.

The fake leak claimed that the free PS Plus games for September 2021 would be The Medium, Haven, and Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2. Since Sony has established a pattern of the free PS5 PS Plus game being a new release and with the PS5 version of The Medium releasing in September, it seemed reasonable that it could very well be one of the free PS Plus games. Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2 also seemed believable, as Sony has an established relationship with Activision and has featured the company's games in the PS Plus lineup before, like with Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 earlier this year.

Usually video game companies avoid commenting on "leaks" and rumors, but The Medium developer Bloober Team was quick to debunk this leak. But there was one big giveaway that should've indicated to PlayStation fans that this leak was fake anyway. The Medium's PS5 release date is September 3, which is a Friday, but the free PS Plus games only come on the first Tuesday of each month, which is September 7.

So this free PS Plus game leak is fake, but luckily fans will know the real lineup soon. As previously mentioned, Sony usually announces the free PS Plus games on the last Wednesday of each month, so fans only have to wait until tomorrow, August 25, to find out more.

The free PS Plus games for September 2021 have not been announced at the time of this writing, but one theory may reveal the free PS5 offering. There is a theory going around that the free PS5 PS Plus game for September 2021 is FIST: Forged in Shadow Torch, a new Metroidvania game starring a cyborg rabbit. This is because FIST's release date is September 7, and as previously established, Sony likes to make brand new games the free PS5 PS Plus games. Something working against this theory, though, is that FIST is available for pre-order, meaning Sony would likely have to refund people if it were to make that the free game.

Whatever the case may be, fans will find out what the free PS Plus games for September 2021 are sooner rather than later.
