Sony has confirmed the PS Plus Essential Tier lineup as Mafia 2: Definitive Edition, Aliens: Fireteam Elite, and Dragon Ball: The Breakers. Until November 7, fans will still be able to claim the PS Plus free games for October 2023. These include the survival horror game The Callisto Protocol, the self-explanatory Farming Simulator 22, and supernatural action RPG Weird West.

Some PS Plus subscribers may have been concerned because this announcement has come later than normal. However, it's just how the calendar shakes out. The typical Sony pattern is to reveal it on the Wednesday before the first Tuesday of the given month, which often falls on the last Wednesday of the prior month. November 1 is the Wednesday this time around though, and so while fans may have seemingly waited a little longer than normal, the new reveals are indeed here.

Sony Comments on PS Plus Price Increase and Why Its Games Aren't Added on Day One

PlayStation senior vice president Eric Lempel gives his thoughts on the recent PS Plus price hike and why first-party games aren't added on day one.

Mafia 2: Definitive Edition is a remaster brought to life with beautiful, high-tension detail, including all content and DLC from the base game. In it, players step into the role Vito Scaletta as he becomes involved with the mob and climbs the family ladder. For someone wanting a fun story of crime with solid gameplay, it's hard to go wrong with Mafia 2. Meanwhile, Aliens: Fireteam Elite sees players face enemy waves continuously, almost as if it were a horde mode game with an attached campaign. Players can choose from a handful of playable classes, while also joining their friends in co-op.

Rounding out the free games for November is Dragon Ball: The Breakers, a unique asymmetrical action game within the franchise. In it, players take on the role of ordinary characters and try to survive against a raider such as Cell, Frieza, or Buu. In this way, it's not unlike asymmetrical horror games such as Dead by Daylight, though with the horror spin of course.

PS Plus never really stops though, and regardless of how fans feel about this selection, more is on the way. Fans can expect Sony to reveal the PS Plus Extra and Premium games for November 2023 relatively soon and release them on November 15. In fact, one PS Plus Extra game for November has already been confirmed: Teardown. It is a simulation game where players tear down buildings, perform illegal acts, and otherwise work for shady folks in fun and destructive environments.

PS Plus subscribers get a handful of games every month.
