Beginning July 4, PS Plus subscribers will be able to claim three new titles (Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, Alan Wake Remastered, and Endling: Extinction is Forever) via the Essential tier for PS4 and PS5 consoles. PS Plus subscribers who claim them will then be able to play them whenever they want, as long as their service is active, but they will only have until August 1 to claim these titles. It should be noted that the PS Plus free games for June 2023 are still available for a little longer, but fans will want to claim them soon. They include NBA 2K23, Jurassic World Evolution 2, and Trek to Yomi, all available in native PS4 and PS5 versions. NBA is a big game to include, but arguably, it does seem that Sony brought out the big guns for July 2023.RELATED: Meta Quest Reveals First 4 Games for New PS Plus-Style ServiceSeeing a Call of Duty game reveal drop on the PS Plus Essential Tier during the FTC v. Microsoft case (over the Activision Blizzard acquisition) is definitely surprising, but welcome. There are not a whole lot of video game releases in July, so dropping a game with solid multiplayer (even if some fans have moved on) is a wise choice. At the same time, Alan Wake Remastered is a big get too as fans will be able to enjoy this title for the cost of their subscription before Alan Wake 2 releases later this year.

PS Plus Free Games (Essential Tier) List for July 2023

  • Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War (PS4/PS5)
  • Alan Wake Remastered (PS4/PS5)
  • Endling: Extinction is Forever (PS4/PS5)

Endling: Extinction is Forever also fills a strong indie niche, bringing something new for fans to the table. This indie adventure survival game sees players take on a role of a fox trying to protect her cubs, where players must help them, teach them, feed them, and save them. The game has strong reviews, so subscribers should not sleep on it just because the other two games are more generally well-known. Regardless, the PS Plus free games for July 2023 form a solid lineup at a great time.

Summer slowdowns are not uncommon in the industry, and that's what July feels like. Fans will have a few releases to check out, but many may be relying on their backlogs or on their subscription services. For PS Plus subscribers, that means a Call of Duty game, a beloved Remedy Entertainment game, and a rock solid indie, among other additions to the PS Plus Extra and Premium catalog.

PS Plus subscribers get a handful of games every month.
