The reception to PS Plus Extra and Premium has been quite telling for the service. Many are enjoying its offerings, and while it hasn’t been perfect, it’s looking good for the future. Some PS Plus Extra and Premium games are already scheduled to leave, but that’s fine giving more are coming in. For example, new titles for the higher tier should be announced midway through July and include, at least, the day one release of Stray.

The Essential Tier of PS Plus marches onward too, essentially being the exact same as PS Plus before. In June 2022, fans got access to God of War, Naruto to Boruto: Shinobi Striker, and Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl. Yesterday was the last full day fans could snag them, as they are being replaced with the PS Plus free games for July 2022.

The new PS Plus Essential Tier games for July 2022 include Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time, The Dark Pictures Anthology: Man of Medan, and Arcadegeddon. At the very least, it seems the free games for July are generally better than the free games for June. None of the June games reviewed quite well, outside of God of War. Meanwhile, Crash Bandicoot 4 has an 85 Top Critic Average, and Man of Medan has a 71 Top Critic Average on OpenCritic.

PS Plus Free Games for July 2022

  • Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time (PS5/PS4)
  • The Dark Pictures Anthology: Man of Medan (PS4)
  • Arcadegeddon (PS5/PS4)

Arcadegeddon, meanwhile, doesn’t have much in the way of reviews, but given that neither of the other two are as low as Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl or Shinobi Striker, it should be a good month. Crash Bandicoot 4 is a beloved platformer and long-awaited entry in the franchise, Man of Medan is a signature horror game from Supermassive Games, and Arcadegeddon is a cooperative PvE and PvP experience set to the general themes of a classic arcade.

Of course, what defines a “good” month or a “bad” month on the PS Plus service is entirely a personal experience. Someone’s personal tastes could correspond better with the June games than the July games, while neither month may hit for some users. Hopefully, if that is the case, the PS Plus games for August 2022 are more satisfying.

While downloading these games, it’s worth keeping in mind that anyone with access to PS Plus Extra and Premium could already check out Man of Medan. This was the case for God of War last month as well, so hopefully, this “repeat” trend doesn’t last for too long as PS Plus settles into its new tiered service.

PS Plus subscribers get a handful of new games every month.
