Sony releases its final selection of games for the PS Plus Extra and Premium tiers today, December 19, bringing this year to an end for the service. Barring any surprises, fans can expect Sony to continue following its established PS Plus pattern for January 2024 and beyond. That is to say, there will be 3 PS Plus games made available for free, on the Essential tier, while 20 or so games will grace PS Plus Extra and Premium.

Sony will eventually change this pattern up, but there's no real indication of that at this time. This is evidenced by the PS Plus free games for December 2023 hitting that exact 3 number with LEGO 2K Drive, Sable, and PowerWash Simulator, yet anyone unsatisfied with this selection (but subscribed to the higher tiers) can now claim up to 19 new games on PS Plus Extra and Premium. The PS Plus Premium tier is a real treat for nostalgic fans, including Buzz Lightyear of Star Command, Mega Man Legacy Collection, Mega Man Legacy Collection 2, Thrillville, and Thrillville: Off the Rails.

Meanwhile, the bulk of the new selection will be available via PS Plus Extra, with Grand Theft Auto 5 headlining the month. Alongside it, this month includes GigaBash, Grime, Mega Man 11, Metal: Hellsinger, Moonscars, Moto GP 23, Prodeus, Salt and Sacrifice, Shadowrun: Dragonfall - Director's Cut, Shadowrun: Hong Kong - Extended Edition, Shadowrun Returns, Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin, and Tinykin.

It seems safe to say that PS Plus Extra and Premium end the year on a high note, especially with the nostalgia jampacked into PS Plus Premium and the inclusion of GTA 5 on PS Plus Extra. The latter is especially exciting, as many fans are likely excited to delve back into the game. With Grand Theft Auto 6 confirmed to release in 2025, replays for the franchise are on the table for many hardcore fans.

However, it's hard to say what Sony intends to bring to the table in 2024. PS Plus has had a strong year, oftentimes with the catalog of PS Plus Extra and Premium games being the crowning jewel, and it'll be interesting to see how Sony leans into that or changes things up next year.

PS Plus subscribers get a handful of games every month.
