Highlights

  • Anno 1800 joins the PS Plus Extra lineup in June for free, offering strategic city-building gameplay.
  • Players praise the game for its depth and strategic elements, making it a valuable addition to the Ubisoft Plus Classics.
  • Expect Anno 1800 to arrive around June 18 on PS Plus Extra, adding to the variety of free games available.

One of the newest games on the PlayStation Plus Extra free games catalog for June is Anno 1800, a Ubisoft title that the company is including in its Ubisoft Plus Classics catalog, which PlayStation Plus Extra subscribers can access for free. As Ubisoft revealed two months ago, Anno 1800 is making its way to Ubisoft Plus Classics specifically for console players, as PC has its own version of the service.

Anno 1800 is a real-time city-building strategy game in which players create a settlement and work to develop its economy, resources, and relations with other cities in an expansive historical setting. From Ubisoft Blue Byte, a subsidiary of the main company, Anno 1800 offers hundreds of hours of strategic city building and received a nomination in 2019 for the Best Sim/Strategy game at The Game Awards.

Ubisoft Confirms Games, Start Time, and More for Special June 10 Event

Ubisoft confirms the date and time for the next Ubisoft Forward livestream, which is being held soon after Summer Game Fest early next month.

Back in April, Ubisoft confirmed that the game would be coming to its Ubisoft Plus Classics subscription service this June, which is included with a PS Plus Extra membership and gives users access to a variety of Ubisoft titles, including several games in the Far Cry franchise. Thus, Reddit user kabirsingh84 pointed out in the r/PlayStationPlus community that this effectively makes the game a bonus title as part of PS Plus Extra's usual free monthly games.

Anno 1800 is a Welcome Addition to Ubisoft+

Fans of the game were quick to respond with their thoughts on the game, with some praising Anno 1800 for its myriad content and engaging strategic gameplay that rewards players who put a lot of time into it. Others mentioned that they are excited for its inclusion on PlayStation Plus Extra since they had been wanting to try it and now have a way to do so at no extra cost.

As for when the game is set to arrive, the PlayStation Plus Extra catalog is typically updated on the third Tuesday of every month, so players can likely expect it in just over a week and half on June 18. Neither Ubisoft nor PlayStation have confirmed this date, however, though they have rarely wavered from this schedule in the past.

In the meantime, PlayStation Plus Extra users recently received The Settlers: New Allies and the divisive open-world title Watch Dogs in past months as part of Ubisoft Plus, so there is no shortage of free games for subscribers to enjoy. Members also have access to PlayStation's own selection of free games, which are updated every month alongside exclusive discounts and even sometimes free cosmetic DLC for games like Fortnite and Rocket League.
