It's all too easy to get eaten in Project Zomboid. The slowly deteriorating pastures of Knox County are as vast as they are unforgiving, and even a simple scratch can eventually spell death if it's not properly treated. Add the surprisingly deep injury systems that will see players pulling glass out of their hands with tweezers and suturing up deep wounds, and it becomes clear that Project Zomboid has earned its hardcore reputation.

The real fun comes from ascending to meet the challenge of these difficult systems, where knowing what to do is half the battle. By gathering useful medical supplies and making the ones they already have more effective, players will be back to full health in no time. Taking care of themselves and their co-op partners effectively will also increase players' first-aid skills.

How to Sterilize Bandages in Project Zomboid

There are a few different ways to sterilize bandages, so players have plenty of options. It's always worth doing so if the option is available, as wounds covered by a sterilized bandage will heal faster than those with a regular or dirty one.

If a wound is infected, covering it with sterilized bandages will treat it faster, though it should be noted that sterilized bandages will still get dirty at the same rate as regular ones. Covering bite wounds won't stop them from being fatal, either, as bites will always kill the player unless zombification is disabled.

  • If players have found a bottle of Bourbon, right-clicking on the bandage or sheet will show an option to disinfect it
  • A bottle of disinfectant can be used in the same way and yield the same result
  • A cooking pot or saucepan will, when filled with boiling water, show the option to disinfect rags when right-clicked
    • To fill the container with water, right-click any source of it and 'fill cooking pot/saucepan'
    • To boil the water, put it in an oven or other heat source and click 'turn on'
    • When the container has turned red, it can then be right-clicked and used to disinfect bandages

If players are struggling to find bandages in their surroundings, ripping up clothes can be a viable alternative. Socks, shirts, pants, and coats can all yield plenty of ripped sheets for covering wounds. They can also be used to create a sheet rope that can help escape dangerous situations without taking fall damage.

Project Zomboid is available now on PC.
