Slightly Mad Studios officially announced Project Cars 3, confirming that the game will be released this summer. The developer's CEO once alleged that EA had tried to "kill" the studio over a deal to make Need for Speed: Shift 3, but several years later and Slightly Mad is going nowhere.

In a surprise announcement trailer released today, Slightly Mad confirmed that Project Cars 3 is now in development and will be released this summer on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. The trailer confirms that the new Project Cars will offer the slick, high-quality graphics that fans will expect and there will be several customization features, including cars and characters, said Slightly Mad.

The trailer does look good but some fans have criticized Slightly Mad for what's been shown in it. There are concerns that Project Cars 3 will be more of an arcade-style game and won't keep to the hardcore simulation gameplay that they enjoy. In Project Cars 2, there were features like weather simulation which could affect a race. These features may not be enjoyed by more casual players but are what hardcore gamers are looking for.

It's also unclear if Project Cars 3 will be released on next-gen consoles. Codemasters has confirmed that Dirt 5 will be released on PS5 and Xbox Series X, meaning that fans of the genre will have something to play on the new consoles. However, Project Cars 3 could potentially be a great experience on PS5 and Xbox Series X but Slightly Mad hasn't confirmed if the game could be released on them later.

Project Cars 3 will be released in summer 2020 on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
