Nintendo announced a new game starring Princess Peach, giving the leader of the Mushroom Kingdom a moment to shine in her own adventure. Although it decided to sit out Summer Game Fest, Nintendo has now delivered a new Nintendo Direct full of exciting announcements and surprises.

The Nintendo Direct revealed new amiibos based on The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and confirmed that the Detective Pikachu sequel is coming out later this year. Nintendo also revealed new details for Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1 and made the shocking announcement of the Super Mario RPG remake for Nintendo Switch. Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars was released nearly 30 years ago and is often considered one of the best Mario RPGs ever made.

After spending years in peril being kidnapped by Bowser, Nintendo announced that Princess Peach will be the star of her own game coming to Nintendo Switch in 2024. Details about the title are scarce, but Nintendo has released a video less than 30 seconds long showing the gameplay of what indicates to be a 2.5D side-scroller reminiscent of other Mario RPGs. Princess Peach encounters different characters and traverses scenarios from a theater version of the Mushroom Kingdom, accompanied by a star that makes the pair resemble Rosalina and her Luma companion.

Despite the few details released by Nintendo, one thing in the teaser for the new Princess Peach game has caught the eye. The video shows that when Princess Peach steps onto a special pedestal, her iconic pink dress changes to a light blue version, indicating that the character is powered up in some way. The information about the Princess Peach game announced in the newest Nintendo Direct presentation ends there. Nintendo promises, however, that players will have more information at a future date.

Interestingly enough, this is not the character's first time in the spotlight, as Princess Peach got a Nintendo DS game in 2005, the last time players saw her as the protagonist of her own adventure. Super Princess Peach earned somewhat mixed reviews at the time of its release, so it will be interesting to see if this new game fares better with critics.

The new Princess Peach game will be released in 2024 exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
