Princess Peach Showtime is a brand new Nintendo Switch title, which sees the titular Princess star in her very own action-adventure game. Fans were first introduced to Princess Peach Showtime during June 2023's Nintendo Direct, though many details, including the game's title, were kept under wraps. With this week's September Nintendo Direct, the title has been given a full-reveal trailer, which offered some surprising glimpses at the Princess' solo act. Perhaps the most surprising reveal was that Princess Peach Showtime will see the heroine transform between a myriad of styles and costumes. According to the reveal trailer, these transformations will allow Princess Peach to overcome various puzzle and combat obstacles. While Nintendo was sure to keep most of the transformations under wraps, Princess Peach Showtime showed off a few that are sure to grab the attention of Super Mario fans.
Princess Peach Showtime sees the Princess set out to save the Sparkle Theater from an evil witch Wicked Grape, and her minions, the Sour Bunch. Receiving a mysterious theater invite from Toad, Peach visits the theater, where things quickly get out of hand. To save the theater, Peach must ally with the Theater's guardian, Stella, and together the two will need to overcome theatrical obstacles in order to save various sets from Wicked Grape. To do so, Stella enables Peach to transform into a form that reflects the current stage production, allowing her to use unique skills to drive out the Sour Bunch.
Swordfighter Peach
The very first transformation showcased in Princess Peach Showtime's trailer sees Peach become a master swordfighter. Using this transformation, Peach is able to cut large brambles that have overwhelmed the stage. Additionally, Peach gains expert swashbuckling skills, through which she can dispel and evade multiple enemies through graceful flips and rapid attacks. It also appears that Swordfighter Peach moves much faster than her base version, an ability that will no doubt come in handy when she faces the large flower-like boss seen in the reveal trailer.
Detective Peach
The next transformation sees Peach don a detective outfit, in order to solve the mysteries of a second production being threatened by the villainous Wicked Grape. Traversing a Museum-like set, Detective Peach searches multiple exhibits for clues to the location of a missing item. It appears that Detective Peach does not engage in combat, with the location featuring a few Museum patrons who may or may not play a role in solving its overarching mystery. Though little was shown of Detective Peach, this transformation appears to shake up the overall gameplay quite a bit, hinting at the variety fans can expect upon the title's full release.
Patissier Peach
Princess Peach Showtime's new trailer also revealed that Peach will be tasked with saving a Sweets Festival from the nefarious Sour Bunch. To do so, she will transform into Patissier Peach, and employ her expert baking skills to create some impressive culinary concoctions. The trailer shows Peach hoisted high above a massive cake. With a timer ticking down, Peach must expertly decorate the top of the cake in order to help the Sweets Festival recover from an apparent heist of its decadent desserts.
Kung Fu Peach
Princess Peach will enter the set of a theatrical Martial Arts School as she transforms into the fierce Kung Fu Peach. The school has been overrun by the Sour Bunch, and Peach must use her expert-level Martial Arts discipline to drive them out. Beyond its impact on the level's basic combat, Princess Peach Showtime's reveal trailer shows Peach locked in a one-on-one sparring match with a large puppet-like foe. Using precise timing and quick action, Peach can be seen decisively matching her foe's movements blow for blow.
Princess Peach Showtime is setting the stage for Peach's grandest adventure yet. As her first solo outing since 2005's Super Princess Peach, the title could be the start of a brand-new era for the fan-favorite character. While Princess Peach Showtime's trailer revealed some amazing transformations, and unique gameplay changes to match, fans can be certain that the title's full release will be packed with surprises. Luckily, fans of Princess Peach don't have too long to wait to see the heroine in action, as Princess Peach Showtime has been slated for a March 2024 release.
Princess Peach Showtime is set to release on March 22, 2024, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
