Princess Peach first appeared in Super Mario Bros. in 1985. Mario's first time rescuing the princess from Bowser would not be the last time she would be in trouble. Anyone who's played Super Mario has surely rescued Princess Peach in one castle or another.

However, it takes more than one trip through the Mushroom Kingdom to know about the royal princess. Whether it's her deep, dark secrets or where her trademark weapons come from, fans will learn more about Nintendo's pink-powered monarch than they would have ever expected!

10 Found ??? in Super Mario RPG

In Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, players can enter Peach's room in the Mushroom Kingdom castle. In the left wing of the castle, they'll climb the stairs and meet her grandmother. During their first trip here, they can search behind a blue chair in her room. Doing so will trigger a message that says "Found Toadstool's "???"

This will provoke the grandmother to approach the player and give them an item if you'll leave everything where it was. Later in the game, when Peach joins the party, searching behind the chair will cause Peach to scold the player. However, we will never know what that mystery item ever was.

9 Paper Mario Was The Last Game to Feature Her Orange Hair

The original Paper Mario was released in 2001 for the Nintendo 64. Even though it was released long after the 16-bit titles, Peach wore the orange hair in the NES Super Mario Bros. titles. While Peach's blonde hair became the normal trend after Super Mario 64, Paper Mario featured it one last time.

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, the 2004 sequel, would color her hair back to blonde. Incidentally, using the Super Star, in Super Paper Mario, would revert her back to her 8-bit red-headed self.

8 Super Princess Peach Was Her First And Only Starring Role

This little known entry about our darling princess comes from a DS release in 2005. Released 15 years ago, this was the first and only game to star Princess Peach. It was set in a side-scrolling platformer with an art style akin to the colorful and cheery Yoshi's Island series. Peach could tap into four different emotions in order to help her solve puzzles. All of this was to rescue Mario from Bowser, which just adds to their crazy relationship.

While the game was noted for its simplistic difficulty, the high sales and praise from critics gave it a following. Unfortunately, Nintendo has not made a follow-up since. The last platforming game to feature Princess Peach would be Super Mario 3D World.

7 Super Smash Bros. References Her "Fire Peach" Costume From 3D World

Speaking of Super Mario 3D World, this was the debut of Fire Peach. As she was finally playable in a platforming Mario game for the first time since Super Mario Bros. 2, she gained access to all the powerups, including some fresh design choices. One of these was Fire Peach, donning her in a white dress with red embroidery.

This costume would make its mark in Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Wii U. Note that it also pays homage to Peach's original sprite in Super Mario Bros.

6 Yoshi Safari Was the First Title to Name her "Peach" in America

We knew her as "Princess Toadstool" when Nintendo of America localized her name in the 80s and 90s. When she introduced herself, in Super Mario 64's opening letter, this would introduce many fans to her true name from Japan.

Predating Super Mario 64, however, Yoshi's Safari for SNES was the first game to refer to her as "Peach." This underrated, hidden gem featured the Super Scope accessory, a light gun accessory akin to the NES' Light Gun, but held like a bazooka. Despite this sudden name change, Peach and Toadstool were, in fact, the same person.

5 Peach is the Same Age as Mario (Yoshi's Island DS)

Theories have sprung for years over the debate on Mario character's ages. While we have next to nothing concrete to go on, Mario creator, Shigeru Miyamoto, has once said that Mario is 24 years old. While Miyamoto has made outlandish claims about his own series in the past, such as Mario 3 being a stage play, Mario's last name, or even being Bowser Jr's own mother, perhaps the closest truth we can get comes from the Yoshi's Island series.

Yoshi's Island takes place before the events of the mainstream Mario canon. Originally featuring Baby Mario in the SNES title, the DS sequel would feature Baby Wario, Baby DK, and even Baby Peach. While this places them all around the same age, it doesn't explain why Baby Bowser is near the same age as the others and has a teenage son.

4 Was a Nurse Before Becoming a Doctor!

Dr. Mario World introduced many doctors to its branch of medical service. However, Peach is the only one to have qualified as a nurse. While she never appeared in-game, "Nurse Peach" appeared in the promotional material for Dr. Mario 64. She would later appear in Dr. Mario x Puzzle League.

This was also the subject of some reference in the Smash Bros. series. Super Smash Bros. Melee even featured "Nurse Peach," Peach's white alt, fighting alongside Dr. Mario. She would also be referenced in the tips for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U.

3 Was Almost Married off to Bowser Twice

Super Mario Odyssey is known for its outlandish story of Bowser wanting to marry Peach. While this has been the tale since the dawn of the Mario series, this is the closest Bowser has gotten, or so it would seem. A little known Wii game, called Super Paper Mario, featured a wedding between Peach and Bowser in the intro of the game.

Developed by Intelligent Systems, however, it otherwise posed little bearing on the platforming Mario canon. However, it would be the first appearance featuring Peach and Bowser in their wedding outfits. Bowser would later upgrade his dapper outfit with a hat and a pair of pants.

2 Peach's Parasol Originated in Super Mario RPG

Peach uses a parasol throughout Paper Mario, Smash Bros., Super Princess Peach, and other games. However, the first game to introduce it would come from Super Mario RPG. This game featured Peach's parasol initially when she escaped out of the castle through her window.

After leaving her to her own devices, she would float down into the Mushroom Kingdom's courtyard to join up with you. Peach would later go on to use her Parasol as an equippable weapon later in the game.

1 Peach's Dress has Received Design Updates in Every Smash Bros. Title

Masahiro Sakurai, creator of Smash Bros., designs some of the characters with his own touch. He designed the outfits of Fox, Falco, and Wolf throughout the series. But with Peach, he took special care in her design. In Super Smash Bros. Melee, take note of the golden embroidery.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl would later update her dress with a few new details. Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Wii U would once again update this look by adding fully-modeled texture detail to her dress. Finally, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate even updated her gloves with added textures.
