Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, Ubisoft's 2D metroidvania take on its classic franchise, will receive a host of new items, features and a story DLC as part of its freshly announced post-launch roadmap. Wowing critics and audiences with its fluid, challenging platforming, satisfying 2D combat, and impeccably designed boss fights, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown was released in January to glowing reviews, and is one of 2024's earliest Game of the Year contenders.

Announced last summer as part of Ubisoft's Summer Game Fest showcase, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown surprised many fans, as the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake was expected to be the title to bring the franchise back to relevancy. Though, with a troubled development and multiple delays, the Sands of Time remake still has yet to be released, giving way to The Lost Crown serving as the perfect holdover for Prince of Persia fans awaiting the revival of the 2003 classic. The Lost Crown is Ubisoft Montpellier's first major game in some time, as the beloved Rayman studio had spent the past decade working on smaller titles.

How Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, Skull and Bones Might Shape Ubisoft's Future Direction

Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown & Skull and Bones have been Ubisoft's most pivotal recent releases and they offer some big lessons for the publisher.

Now, nearly two months since launch, Prince of Perisa: The Lost Crown took to Twitter to unveil its surprising post-launch plans for the remainder of 2024. Starting on March 30, with the Warrior's Path update, the game will receive a speedrun mode, a permadeath mode, and new outfits for the game's protagonist, Sargon. Later in Spring, The Lost Crown will add a boss rush mode called Boss Attack, which will give players access to each of The Lost Crown's boss battles back to back without having to play through the entire game again. The Boss Attack update will add even more Sargon outfits as well.

Post-Launch Content Coming To Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown:

  • Speedrun Mode - March 20
  • Permadeath Mode - March 20
  • Boss Rush Mode - Spring 2024
  • Divine Trials Challenges - Summer 2024
  • Story DLC - 2024
  • New Sargon Outfits
  • New Amulets

In the summer, The Lost Crown fans can expect the Divine Trials update, which will add new combat, puzzle, and platforming challenges to the game. It's not known if these additional challenges will be added to the game's already large map, or if they'll be accessed via a menu. Regardless, some of The Lost Crown's toughest moments are its puzzles and platforming challenges, so hardcore fans can look forward to even more of them this summer. Divine Trials will also add more amulets to the game, along with more looks for Sargon. Finally, The Lost Crown's 2024 roadmap caps off with a story DLC coming later in the year. As no further details have been divulged, it'll be interesting to know whether this DLC will take place in new areas of Mount Qaf, or if it'll introduce a new location entirely.

It's surprising to see a single-player 2D action platformer receive a post launch roadmap, as these are typically reserved for AAA online service titles. For Prince of Perisa: The Lost Crown fans wondering about the DLC, it's likely that Ubisoft is planning to have a proper reveal at its expected Summer Game Fest showcase.
