During your journey in the Hyrcanian Forest, you come across a hidden Soldier in an outcrop. He claims to belong to the Darius Army, which, according to Sargon, died thirty years ago. Talking to him, you find out he needs help finding his lost friend and getting a Cannonball for his escape. How to Start the Deserter Quest
To the west of the first Wak-Wak Tree in the Hyrcanian Forest, locate the three Iwans (rectangular-shaped pillars). Strike the glowing flower next to these pillars and navigate to the other side, where you see an outcropping. Slide under the rocks to find Brute, the Soldier, and start the Deserter side quest. (You must choose “Accept” at the end of the conversation.)
Your objective is to find Brute’s comrade and the missing Cannonball.
If you’re curious about the purpose of the Cannonball, Brute requires it to shatter the boulder obstructing his path, enabling his escape. Due to his substantial size, he is unable to slide out of the cave like you.
Where to Find His Friend and Cannonball
Following the conversation with Darius’ Soldier, proceed along the path beneath his outcropping. Upon reaching the waterfall area, slide down the middle path and leap onto the left platform. Here, you’ll encounter a hanged soldier. Cut the rope and examine his body; he’s the lost friend. Retrieve the Cannonball from his remains. With the item in hand, return to Brute's outcrop to conclude the quest.

What Do You Get for Completing the Mission?
Brute gives a Soma Tree Petal. Petals increase your maximum health, provided that you collect four of them. You can also keep the Cannonball as a Lore Item—though you will not be able to use it.
