20th Century Studios has released brand-new footage from its upcoming film Prey, which will premiere in August on the Hulu streaming platform. The fresh look at the fast arriving Predator prequel showcases a familiar predatory antagonist with the power to instill an immobilizing atmosphere of fear in those who unsuspectingly cross its path.

The upcoming Predator prequel is set in the Comanche Nation and takes place 300 years before the events familiar to audiences in the original 1987 film. The Predator prequel centers around Naru, a fierce young woman from the Comanche Nation, driven to protect her people once an ominous danger arrives. The brand-new threat reveals itself to be a highly advanced alien predator with unspeakable capabilities, resulting in a showdown between two skilled warriors fighting to survive.

The two-minute Prey trailer places Naru center stage and provides audiences with insight into her motivation, which stems from her desire to prove to her tribe that she can hunt and survive the present dangers that linger in nature. Her unwavering passion pushes her to hunt a ferocious bear, which unrelentingly pursues her until an even bigger threat kills the ravenous animal with ease. While invisible, the threat looms horrifically and prompts Naru to warn her people of the danger lurking.

"It knows how to hunt. I know how to survive," expresses Naru in the newly released footage, hinting at an epic mental and physical tussle between the two adversaries. The original 1987 Predator film starred Arnold Schwarzenegger and pitted the soldier against the advanced alien with military-grade weaponry. It'll be intriguing to see how Naru can use the familiarity of the environment and more archaic weapons to defeat the dangerous visitor before all is tragically lost.

Prey comes from director Dan Trachtenberg, notably known for his work on 2016's 10 Cloverfield Lane, which earned immense praise from critics throughout its release. 20th Century Studios noted that Trachtenberg and others wanted to provide audiences with an accurate portrayal of the Comanche Nation, which led to the critical addition of Jhane Myers, a Native Comanche producer. Alongside Myers, the film's incredible cast includes Native and First Nations talent, alongside Dane DiLiegro, who will star as the iconic advanced alien villain.

Indigenous actor Amber Midthunder will lead the charge as the fierce Naru in Prey and looks to provide a stellar performance that will waver along a complicated spectrum of emotions. Knowing that this film is a prequel to events that have already been witnessed raises some questions and early inferences, but it will be interesting to see how things evolve into the reality audiences were first introduced to in the 1987 original film.

Prey will premiere on Hulu on August 5, 2022.
