Available on both Xbox Game Pass and PlayStation Plus Premium, Prey is one of the best science fiction horror games on both services. The game features jumpscares for horror fans and plenty of RPG mechanics for those that like to tailor their protagonist to their liking.
Developed by the same team that created Dishonored and Deathloop, Prey has open-level design and gameplay that caters to all styles. Upgrading the protagonist Morgan Yu's skills requires an unlock in the character's Neuromod skill tree. One of the best Neuromods in Prey is theCombat Focus skill. The power allows Morgan Yu to slow time for up ten seconds, giving the protagonist a significant advantage in battle, including a damage bonus.
How To Acquire Combat Focus In Prey
Combat Focus requires 2 Neuromods to unlock in the skill tree. Thankfully, the Neuromods needed to unlock this skill for Yu is available early on in the game. Once Morgan leaves the prologue area, the character will reach the Talos 1 Lobby. Morgan can obtain three Neuromods by simply following the main story. The best way to unlock Combat Focus early is as follows:
- There are three Neuromods on Morgan Yu's office desk.
- The office is on Level 3 of the Talos 1 Lobby. The mission marker will take the player directly to it.
- Press the back button Touchpad on the controller.
- Press R1/RB to access the Neuromods skills menu.
- Select Security and acquire the Combat Focus 1 for 2 Neuromods.
- As actions within combat focus cost 50% Stamina, use the remaining Neuromod to unlock the Conditioning mod to increase Yu's health, stamina, and speed.
- Equip combat focus on the favorites wheel by holding down the Y/Triangle button and selecting the combat focus mod. But if it's the first unlockable Psi power in Prey, Combat Focus is mapped automatically to the LT/L2 button.
What Makes Combat Focus So Good?
The Combat Focus skill can be leveled up twice and adds more damage multipliers to the weapon or power Morgan uses with it. Combining Combat Focus with Prey's Disrupter Stun Pistol will significantly halt any enemy in their tracks, leaving them open to attack.
Using stealth attacks will be enhanced by the Combat Focus' damage output. Simply hit an unaware enemy with a stealth attack from the crouched position, and the damage bonuses increased massively. Even Phantoms will fall to this powerful combination of attacks. For stealth players, it can give the protagonist extra time to run and hide.
