Adult Swim will be releasing their most recent original anime series, Housing Complex C, next month and there couldn’t be a better month than Spook-tober for the horror series to debut. Adult Swim has revealed an updated release date and a new trailer to build anticipation in the anime fandom.

Last month, Adult Swim revealed the series would be premiering in October, and Adult Swim is no stranger to anime, as many a new or old anime fan can attest. Still, it’s relatively new to releasing its own original anime, as its first co-produced original anime series, Fena: Pirate Princess, was released in Fall 2021.

Adult Swim has been pretty hush-hush about its upcoming horror anime series Housing Complex C, but earlier this month it revealed an updated premiere date of October 2nd, along with the new trailer below. The series will be co-produced by Production I.G., the producers behind each season of Attack on Titan, as well as Psycho-Pass, and Vinland Saga.

So far, the story details that have been released mention that the series will revolve around Kimi, a young girl who lives in a small housing complex where gruesome situations start occurring. After premiering on Adult Swim, the series will be available to viewers on HBOMax the next day.

Adult Swim may be the most recent competitor to enter the original anime battlefield, preceded by Crunchyroll and Netflix primarily. All three have been dependable sources of anime for North American fans for years, but they haven’t been equally promising as producers of original anime series and most of their original anime series have failed to return after one or two seasons. Just look at Fena: Pirate Princess, which wasn’t able to secure a second season, supposedly because it was originally planned for just one season.

So far, Housing Complex C doesn’t seem like it’ll change the negative perception many anime fans garner toward original anime series produced by large streaming platforms. At only approximately one minute long, the trailer is fairly short and plays like an early 2000s b-rate horror trailer, so it’s not too impressive. For now, the story itself also seems like it could be fairly lacking in depth or originality.

Of course, it’s too soon to nail down the series’ tone, which could prove to make it a welcome addition. Additionally, as new as the streaming service original anime market may be, there are several big hits that have paved the way for others to follow. It can be a mixed bag, but hopefully, fans can expect Housing Complex C to be another gem to emerge from the darkness.
