A symbol very well known from Dragon Age: Inquisition was spotted in a movie by fans. The screenshot was then shared on Twitter and even the developers of Dragon Age: Inquisition took notice, finding it equally funny and embarrassing for the film crew.The Inquisition has a long history within the world of the Dragon Age games. According to the lore, the first Inquisition predated even the Chantry itself, which is one of the world's main religions. Eventually, the organization was disbanded and is only reformed thanks to the events unfolding at the beginning of Dragon Age: Inquisition. It's brought back to once again fight an overwhelming evil and the players take on the role of the leader of the Inquisition. At the end of the DLC Trespasser, the Inquisitor has the power to either restructure the Inquisition to a smaller size, wanting to still be around if any new dangers arise, or officially disband the Inquisition. However, even if the Inquisition is disbanded on paper, it continues to operate in secret in the hopes of protecting Thedas from a rising threat.The symbol of the Inquisition is tied closely to the lore of the Dragon Age series. It consists of two in-universe constellations that are Visus, the "Watchful Eye," and Judex, the "Blade of Mercy." It's not taken from other real-life examples, which is why fans found it hilarious when they noticed it during the viewing of The Pope's Exorcist. To make matters even worse, in Russel Crowe's latest movie, the symbol is used to represent the Spanish Inquisition. Those who are interested can look up the symbol for the actual Spanish Inquisition, and it bears little to no resemblance to its Dragon Age counterpart. Fans in general found this hilarious and the original post on Twitter received over a thousand likes.
It became big enough to draw the attention of the actual developers working for BioWare. John Epler, creative director for Dragon Age: Dreadwolf retweeted the post and added a comment which characterized the research for the film in a negative yet funny light. Basically, whoever did the research for the movie took the first picture they thought looked good under the search results for "inquisition." This meant the screenshot reached more video game industry insiders, as well as other Dragon Age fans who were equally delighted and shocked by the revelation.
It certainly was a good spot on the part of the fans. It provided a good laugh for players familiar with the Dragon Age: Inquisition symbol. It doesn't seem like anyone from the Pope's Exorcist's crew saw the post. If they have, it'll either serve as a good laugh for them or a good lesson in doing more thorough research.
