After being announced less than a month ago on March 31st, Pong Quest, Atari and Chequered Ink's upcoming role-playing adventure game themed around Pong, has received a release date. It seems that those eagerly awaiting what will almost certainly be, by default, the deepest dive into the lore of the Pong universe since its inception, won't have to wait long, as the game is set to release less than 10 days from the time of writing on April 30th of 2020.

In Pong Quest, players will take on the role of a sentient paddle, embarking on a journey through a variety of dungeons themed around classic Atari games, and engaging in combat based around the mechanics of Pong.

Pong Quest deviates from the original game's formula in multiple ways, adding in a variety of special balls to the game which each have different effects on gameplay, and giving players the ability to dress and accessorize their rectangular adventurer. In yet another interesting inclusion, there will be an online multiplayer mode, available for up to four players. For those looking for a more usual Pong experience however, the game will also feature a mode with classic rules.

The game continues an interesting trend of Atari remaking some of their famous, older games, for example releasing Missile Command: Recharged, a re-imagining of the original classic. This is likely part of a larger effort to revitalize the company, as Atari has long struggled to regain much of the industry power it once had.

Pong Quest is slated for release on April 30th of 2020 on PC, PlayStation 4, Switch, and Xbox One.
