The Johnny Depp and Amber Heard trial has been a major talking point since it began. It’s all over social media sites like Twitter, TikTok, and Twitch, with the Depp and Heard trial generating massive views on Twitch—whether it should or not. One place many may not have thought this would come into play is Pokimane’s channel, especially in the context that it recently did.

Pokimane is essentially a veteran of the streaming service and is one of its most popular streamers to date. Her experience has often seen her be a major part of the discourse, whether that’s for her Twitch practices, her commentary on Twitch policies, or her work outside of Twitch. As with nearly every major streamer, Pokimane has found herself involved in a few controversies, but no one would label her a controversial streamer.

The prospect of much commentary on the Depp and Heard Trial on Pokimane's channel sounds unlikely. Yet, it was indirectly brought up during her recent May 8 stream. Pokimane had dyed her hair red, and her Twitch chat was having a good time with it. Many of them were jokingly mocking her, with Pokimane at one point (also jokingly) saying, “you guys really can’t let a girl feel pretty for two seconds.” Just a moment after, someone else in the Twitch chat asked if she was the girl from Aquaman—referencing Amber Heard who notably has vibrant red hair in that movie.

The two colors aren’t that close, so the joke is no doubt rooted in the current popularity of the trial on Twitch. Pokimane was quick to shut it down, though not really explaining anything beyond a series of “no” responses and a few finger wags. “Hell no, I’m not! I am not. I am not! I am very, very, very not. That ain’t me! No siree! Nope!”

Meanwhile, the trial is still ongoing. It’s scheduled to last for five weeks, with the trial currently on break this week. Amber Heard is expected to return to the stand when it resumes on May 16, beginning the fifth and final scheduled week of the trial. Once this happens, it’s likely that the Johnny Depp and Amber Heard trial’s popularity on Twitch, Tiktok, and beyond will die down—if the verdict and results remain a major talking point.

Either way, Pokimane is expected to continue doing what she does on Twitch. Pokimane has recently been part of a discussion about Twitch ads and how they could be less intrusive, and that’s the content this creator is known for.
