A talented Pokemon fan artist has shared an interesting project, in which they create Johto Poke Ball forms of Voltorb and its evolution Electrode. Pokemon fan artists are an incredibly creative community, inspired by Game Freak's diverse selection of Pokemon and their evolutions, forms, and other transformations. While other Pokemon artists are focusing on Paradox forms from Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, this artist has chosen a surprising direction for their efforts.

Voltorb and Electrode are two curious Pokemon, even among the massive Pokedex that Game Freak has already created. They're both very simple in design. They're globe-shaped, differentiated only by size, coloring, and the design of their eyes. Voltorbs have red upper halves and white lower halves, with pronounced and angled brows that make the Pokemon look angry. Electrode is a larger globe with a red bottom half and white upper half, with a big toothy smile and eyes that look playful if not unhinged.

That simple globe shape for Voltorb and Electrode was looked at as an opportunity for artist PhantomLink2782, who shared a fun "experiment" recently on Reddit. The title of their post is "Experimenting with the Voltorb/Electrodes versions of all Johto Region Pokeballs" and features an accompanying image of their art. The art features Voltorb and Electrode versions of eight different PokeBalls, each with custom Pokemon designs that are inspired, to say the least.

The Fastball form of Voltorb and Electrode has yellow circles on each side of the Pokemon and a yellow lightning bolt on each Pokemon's red half. Loveball features a pink heart on each Pokemon, as well as cute eyelashes. The Lureball form of Voltorb and Electrode is especially impressive, with raised sections that look like a helmet on Voltorb and a mask on Electrode. PhantomLink2782 clearly put a good amount of thought into each Pokemon's design, going well beyond simply carrying over each Poke Ball's design with no real changes.

This isn't the first time that PhantomLink2782 decided to make Poke Ball forms of Voltorb and Electrode. It's a running effort by the fan artist. They've also made Great Ball, Ultra Ball, Master Ball, Net Ball, Park Ball, Safari Ball, Nest Ball, Premier Ball, and many other Poke Ball forms of Voltorb and Electrode, too.

PhantomLink2782 does mention that they find it interesting Voltorb and Electrodes are said to have been discovered when Poke Balls were first introduced, and may have a connection. There's deep Pokemon lore here to be uncovered. Perhaps these experiments will shed further light on Voltorb and Electrode's mysterious origin. At the very least, it's some fun Pokemon fan art for players to enjoy.
