A Pokemon fan and artist has designed pre-evolutions for the franchise's Ultra Beasts. Ultra Beasts are a unique kind of Pokemon that were first introduced in Pokemon Sun and Moon. Seven Ultra Beasts appeared in Pokemon Sun and Moon, while an additional four were added as part of Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon.

Ultra Beasts differ from traditional Pokemon in many ways. For example, most Ultra Beasts don't evolve, with the exception of one. Poiple, a Poison-type Ultra Beast introduced in Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, can evolve into Poison/Dragon-type Naganadel when it levels up while knowing the move Dragon Pulse. There are no official evolutions or pre-evolutions for any of the other Ultra Beasts, and so one Pokemon fan decided to take matters into their own hands.

A Pokemon Scarlet and Violet player discovers a significant change to Ultra Beasts in the game files, which could have serious implications for DLC.

Reddit user and artist WhaleMan295 decided to create pre-evolutions for all the other Ultra Beasts that exist in the Pokemon games, taking inspiration from Poiple and Naganadel. WhaleMan295's designs include Egolyp, Skitleech, Infestro, Lifewyre, Celeshootle, Folmissil, Gluteenee, Walstart, and Cejuggalon, who evolve into Nihilego, Buzzwole, Pheromosa, Celesteela, Kartana, Guzzlord, Stakataka, and Blacephalon, respectively. WhaleMan295's designs were met with enthusiasm from the Pokemon community, with the post earning 4.6 thousand upvotes at the time of this writing.

While Ultra Beasts were a big deal in the Pokemon Sun and Moon games, they haven't been nearly as much of a factor since. Pokemon Sword and Shield had its own gimmicks to focus on, and the same goes for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, which introduced Paradox Pokemon. It's possible future Pokemon games will put the spotlight back on Ultra Beasts, potentially introducing brand-new ones, but that remains to be seen.

As it stands, the next Pokemon games have not actually been announced. Pokemon Scarlet and Violet just received their Epilogue update, though, so it's likely Game Freak, Nintendo, and The Pokemon Company are prepping for the franchise's future. Presumably, the Generation 10 Pokemon games are in development and will be releasing on the next Nintendo console, though it's also possible that the new Pokemon games will release on the Nintendo Switch instead.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet were criticized for their performance, which was partly blamed on the Switch's outdated hardware. The next Nintendo console will presumably be a great deal more powerful, and so should theoretically result in more technically-impressive Pokemon games, but that remains to be seen. Pokemon Day is coming on February 27, so perhaps franchise fans will learn more soon.
