Pokemon games have seen new features added and gameplay altered over the years, but lots of things have remained constant. Being constantly besieged by random Pokemon encounters in the tall grass, for example, is something most Pokemon players are probably all too familiar with.

While encountering a Pokemon in the grass can be an opportunity to add a new creature to the Pokedex and one's fighting roster, many low-level Pokemon the trainer doesn't want will also likely show up. Fighting these encounters for EXP is one option, though it may not yield enough to be worth it, making the only remaining option to run. However, one thing most players aren't expecting to see is someone encounter a Mew in an unexpected place and then run away from it.

Over on Reddit, user GumboSkrimpz shared the video of the odd encounter. Their trainer can be seen wading through the tall grass when a random encounter starts. Up until this point, everything seems normal, but that normalcy is quickly tossed aside when a level 3 Mew appears on-screen as the player's opponent. This is the point where any other player would likely be befuddled, yet probably also do anything in their power to capture the incredibly rare Mythical Pokemon. However, GumboSkrimpz can be heard muttering a 'Meh' to the encounter and promptly flees from the fight.

Clearly, GumboSkrimpz is using a modified version of the game or a cheat device in order to encounter Mew. While there are methods of utilizing glitches to cause Mew to spawn under the right circumstances, this is more likely than not an intentional encounter with the use of cheats, especially since GumboSkrimpz has already caught a Mew prior to this random battle. The video was intended to troll fellow Pokemon fans; and while there are many in the comments amused by the video, there are others who are clearly frustrated and puzzled by the player's response to such a rare Pokemon appearing.

Mew has remained one of the tougher Pokemon to catch in the games over the years, likely adding to viewers' frustration. Part of the annoyance is due to the fact that Mew has been subject to an immense number of rumors and claims that it could be unlocked or discovered in the game by natural means, if the player just knew how to do it. Of course, the vast majority of these rumors were completely false, leaving players wasting their time, while this player seemingly runs into a Mew and doesn't even want it. While Mew is available in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, many fans of the older Pokemon games wish they could have run into a Mew of their own somewhere in the tall grass.
