The Pokemon Trading Card Game feels like it has been bigger than ever recently. Thanks to a boom of Twitch streamers opening Pokemon card packs live, there has been an explosion in interest for collecting Pokemon cards.

Additionally, the Pokemon TCG’s latest expansion, Vivid Voltage, has been even more popular thanks to that same boost in popularity online. Now, the Pokemon Company has finally revealed the Pokemon TCG’s next expansion: Shining Fates.

The recent Sword and Shield expansions for the Pokemon TCG has all been fairly well received, but it seems that Vivid Voltage was a return to form for the game. Many players and collectors outside of the Twitch community enjoyed what the Pokemon Company did with the Pokemon TCG’s Vivid Voltage expansion set. That positive reception from hardcore fans coincided with the Pokemon TCG’s boost in popularity, shaping the expansion to be a great way to dive back into the game.

A tweet from the official Pokemon Twitter account teased a few of the new cards included with the Shining Fates expansion. The set has over 100 shiny Pokemon cards, over 190 brand-new cards, and over 30 new V and VMAX cards to collect. Seeing as Vivid Voltage’s Fat Pikachu VMAX card is a sought-after cards in the Sword and Shield expansion sets, these new Shining Fates VMAX cards will be cards to look out for. The Shining Fates expansion set will release in the US on February 19, 2021 and will be available in Pokemon TCG Online when the expansion launches.

Considering the Vivid Voltage expansion set contained 36 total V and VMAX cards, Shining Fates is around that same card count. The post on the official Pokemon website specifically mentions one card that fans should keep an eye out for in the Shining Fates Expansion: Shiny Charizard VMAX card. This card is meant to be a follow-up or companion to the Champion Path set’s Shiny Charizard V.

The Shining Fates expansion set has already been out in Japan under the name Shiny Star V. Hardcore fans and players who follow the Pokemon TCG spotted that most of the cards in the set were reprints of cards from previous expansions with different artwork, so Shining Fates isn’t likely to change decks too much. Still, fans should expect to see plenty of streamers opening up Pokemon TCG booster box for Shining Fates after the expansion launches in the west next year.

The Pokemon Trading Card Game’s Shining Fates expansion launches on February 19, 2021.
