When anything in pop culture gains a sizable following, fan art circulating the web becomes expected. The bigger or longer-lasting the impact, the more fan-made content can usually be found. This is especially true in the case of Pokemon, with the long-running franchise's fandom well-established as some of the most prolific fan art-makers in the world. One Pokemon fan is getting quite a bit of attention for their pixel art of Groudon, which many are finding equal parts incredible and intimidating.

Introduced as the mascot of Pokemon Ruby for Generation 3, Groudon is a Ground-type Legendary possessing the ability to expand continents. Standing at over 11 feet tall, the massive Pokemon gains another five feet when holding a Red Orb, transforming it into the Ground/Fire dual-type Primal Groudon.

Posted onto a Pokemon subreddit, a user with the handle of u/arkhai2 shows off their impressive pixel art, which features Groudon in a more intimidating light than usual. In the image, viewers will see a vast cave system, with a pool of lava in the foreground. Rising out of that lava is a terrifying rendition of Groudon, looking like an enemy from DOOM Eternal. The Legendary is sporting elongated arms, spikes, and extensions along its head, along with pupil-less eyes and a lava-dripping maw. A trainer and his Mudkip stand in the foreground, with the "Run" action aptly selected.

The pixel art depicts quite the terrifying encounter, and one that is clearly a hit with other Pokemon fans. At the time of writing, the fan-made artwork has been posted less than a day, and has already accrued roughly 24,000 upvotes. However, it isn't the only recent Pokemon pixel art from u/arkhai2 to have gotten similar attention. Fittingly, the artist has also created an equally impressive pixel artwork of Kyogre, Groudon's foil and Legendary of Pokemon Sapphire. The Kyogre pixel art creates a similarly intimidating scenario, with a trainer happening upon the gargantuan Pokemon underwater while riding a Wailmer.

The digital artwork of Groudon is certainly impressive, with the retro art style becoming more and more popular in recent years. Another Pokemon fan has created another pixelated version of sorts of the Pokemon, except in a physical 3D form. The fan created a small model of Groudon entirely out of Nanoblocks, LEGO's thicker-profiled competitor. The finished creation looks closer to one of the Pokemon franchise's older 2D sprites, resulting in a rather unique art style. Despite being out of the spotlight for quite a while, Groudon continues to be one of Pokemon's more popular Legendaries of all time.
