After many Pokemon fans were unable to get their hands on the limited Van Gogh Museum-inspired item, The Pokemon Company is announcing a new opportunity to obtain the "Pikachu with Grey Felt Hat" promo card. The collaboration between the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam and the Pokemon franchise features a themed exhibit that will go into 2024. Additionally, there is plenty of merchandise to be purchased, including the elusive promotional Pikachu card.

The limited TCG card sparked a ton of interest when it was announced, and it quickly sold out before The Pokemon Company was able to notify fans via email or social media as to when or even how to purchase the item. With all the confusion, The Pokemon Company even issued an apology concerning the Van Gogh Museum promotional collaboration. They claimed to be working on more ways to provide the card to fans, and it appears as though they are ready to give some specifics.

The Pokemon Company announced on social media that fans will be able to receive the "Pikachu with Grey Felt Hat" promo card with the purchase of $30 or more from their store, aptly named the Pokemon Center. The minimum purchase amount of $30 will need to be in qualifying Pokemon TCG items, however, it is unclear what that means at the moment. The company does add that fans should "stay tuned" to email and official social media platforms for more updates, so perhaps it will clear some things up via those channels. Also, quantities of the card will be limited to one per person.

By making the promotional card an add-on item that fans receive after making another purchase as well as limiting quantities to one per person, hopefully, The Pokemon Company has done enough to dissuade scalpers from hoarding all the cards before fans can obtain them. As fans have seen with other promotions in the past, things can get out of hand when it comes to limited-edition promotional cards. For example, scalpers have been known to hoard McDonald's Pokemon cards and sell them at exorbitantly high prices online.

With some of the most expensive Pokemon cards ever sold reaching into the millions of dollars, there is no shortage of people out there trying to make a quick buck off of a limited-edition item like this. Still, the likelihood of the Van Gogh Pokemon card selling for anywhere near that amount is quite low. That said, scalping is an issue that affects collectors of all sorts of items, and with Pokemon being as popular as it is, it is unfortunately likely to continue into the foreseeable future.
