Highlights

  • The Pokemon Trading Card Game's Twilight Masquerade expansion introduces Ogerpon and its Tera forms, each requiring three Energy cards for strong attacks.
  • The set includes special holographic EX cards with unique abilities and devastating attacks for Ogerpon.
  • Trainers can expect more new Pokemon and potential Trainer Support cards from Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's Teal Mask DLC.

The next booster set for the Pokemon Trading Card Game will bring the Kitakami region to card form for the first time. The Pokemon TCG set is based on the first Expansion Pass DLC for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. The latest release trailer reveals the name of the expansion, as well as six cards players can hope to find when they open their booster packs.

The Pokemon TCG generally follows the story, characters, and game mechanics of the main video games. Its expansions are released quarterly, containing new cards to reflect the same. The modern Pokemon battle style involves Terastallization, which transforms the Pokemon in battle to a Tera form, increasing its power. In the TCG, Tera Pokemon cannot be harmed while not actively in battle, and there are also EX cards that reward players with an extra prize card upon their defeat.

Ogerpon leads the pack of Kitakami region Pokemon, items, and trainers in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet - Twilight Masquerade, the next booster set of the Pokemon Trading Card Game, releasing on May 24. Ogerpon is the legendary Pokemon from the Teal Mask DLC of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. Its famous four masked forms will all be part of the expansion as well. Ogerpon will be able to transform into any one of its EX forms with the use of the Item card "Ogre's Mask." Other Pokemon cards players may find include Bloodmoon Ursaluna EX and Sinistcha EX, both based on Pokemon introduced in Teal Mask.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet - Twilight Masquerade

  • Releases May 24, 2024
  • Contains Ogerpon and its four Tera Forms
  • Ogerpon transforms using its Item Card Teal Mask

Each of Ogerpon's EX-Tera forms bears the unique holographic design of the rarer cards to obtain from the set. All Ogerpon EX-Tera cards require three Energy cards to be attached in order to perform their strongest attack. The Cornertstone Mask Ogerpon EX (Fighting Energy) and Teal Mask Ogerpon EX (Grass Energy) both have a special Ability while active and a single, hard-hitting attack. Heartflame Mask Ogerpon EX (Fire Energy) and Wellspring Mask Ogerpon EX (Water Energy) each have a devastating attack that removes attached energy cards from them. Ogerpon's forms are limited to these four types.

While these are the only six cards to be fully revealed at this time, the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet - Twilight Masquerade expansion includes over 160 new cards. These include more than a dozen new Pokemon EX cards, including Greninja, Magcargo, and Dragapult. ACE SPEC cards and specially illustrated cards will be included as well. More than 30 Trainer Support cards have been announced. Although no specific names have been officially announced, Kieran's drive to be the best was a major plot point of the DLC, and integral in the discovery and befriending of Ogerpon. Though not confirmed, the Masquerade title indicates the celebration of Ogerpon by trainers in Kitakami.

The most important part of the expansion that players will be looking forward to is the list of new Pokemon they can add to their decks. In addition to the roster of Pokemon added in The Teal Mask, the TCG also tends to produce cards based on specific trainer's Pokemon. While catchable wild legendaries are a welcome addition, there's always a trainer who can give a player some challenge. Besides these five new Pokemon cards and the Ogre's Mask item, there's much to speculate on until the next announcement for the Pokemon Trading Card Game.
